The pathology departments at both NTH and STH are working collaboratively to develop a joint service with services being delivered on both hospital sites.

Although the department is based at STH this position will require cross site working as appropriate.


An opportunity has arisen for enthusiastic Healthcare Science Support Workers (previously known as Medical Laboratory Assistants) to join the Microbiology department (1 in Virology and 2 in Bacteriology).


The post holders will be expected to have good IT skills, telephone manner, a flexible approach to working, good manual skills and work with automated equipment to assist Biomedical Scientists in their routine work.

The department operates a 24/7 shift system at A4C rates. It is expected that the post holder will participate in shift working after a suitable period of training.

A high standard of patient confidentiality is required.

The department is UKAS accredited and has IBMS training approval. CPD is actively encouraged
