In this role, you are accountable for The post holder will ultimately be responsible for professionally leading Delivery Management in DDaT; and therefore, be a vital part of the Delivery DDaT leadership team and accountable for the hands-on leadership of the Delivery Management community (Junior Delivery Managers, Delivery Managers, Lead Delivery Managers, and Heads of Delivery and Consultancy).

Defining DDaTs approach for Delivery Management, creating the right environment and processes to establish Delivery Management as a profession and embed it within the organisation.

Leading the professional community for Delivery Management, establishing standards and best practice, creating the conditions which enable the team to perform and excel, and ensuring transparency and engagement and collaboration across the team and the wider organisation.

Formulating and implementing the long-term delivery strategy.


Using your own initiative to interpret wider system requirements (primarily, CDDO (Central Digital and Data Office), NHS England, and NHS Transformation) and approaches, and advising the wider NHSBSA on its implementation.

Responsible for the creation and management of the rolling roadmap of work for the community and getting buy in from the wider organisation to its delivery.

Communication of delivery strategy and other complex information to a range of internal and external stakeholders, to gain support for plans and ensure they have the senior backing needed to land the work of the community.

Innovating and horizon scanning within the delivery profession externally, to ensure the NHSBSA is kept abreast of the latest delivery management developments and advances in the area.


Subsequently responsible for planning and implementing these findings where possible, to support continuous innovation and creativity within the Delivery Management community.

As an expert in the field, providing analysis, independent judgment, and Delivery Management consultancy to complex projects and transformation initiatives.

This would be using a wide range of tools and methods and by fluently and confidently approaching and explaining both high-level and detailed problems.

Building a strong internal and external image for the NHSBSA and take opportunities to enhance the profile and promote the reputation of the NHSBSA, its services and the Delivery Management community.


Working with and across the Directorate team and wider business, act as a driving force behind the implementation of a delivery focussed mindset.

Leading the implementation, monitoring and reporting of appropriate delivery metrics and KPIs, ensuring that these are relevant in the achievement of the directorates goals.

Acting as a senior manager of the directorate and wider business, work within the corporate governance framework and demonstrate the values and capabilities of the organisation and ensuring that the NHSBSA meets its statutory and legislative obligations.

As a senior member of the directorate and wider business, play an active and collaborative role in the effective management and achievement of the goals of the NHSBSA, recognising the significant impact that the NHSBSAs activities has on many people and services within the NHS.


Building relationships with stakeholders across the organisation to engage them with the vision and approach for Delivery Management and collaboratively identify opportunities to build out more efficient and effective delivery approaches.

Deputising for the Head of DDaT Capability and Operations and/or Heads of DDaT Delivery and Consultancy as required.

Active contributor and supporter of the internal service assessment community and processes to support delivery teams, and work with CDDO and NHSE to ensure that DDaT delivery standards and ways of working align with the service manual for delivery.

Ensure that the delivery community have consistent processes for managing financial budgets in accordance with NHSBSAs policies, financial regulations and legislative requirements.

The general management of activities and standards of colleagues within professional disciplines across multidisciplinary teams.

Undertake recruitment and selection in line with organisational processes and participate in the implementation and delivery of initiatives to secure suitable people, increase skills levels, and develop talent pools to meet the changing needs of the business landscape.

Mentoring colleagues, onboard new starters, create induction and playbooks feeding into Delivery Managers personal development plans and career pathways including defining training opportunities and standards for the Delivery Management profession.

Responsible for Delivery Management professional performance, using outputs from appraisals and development conversations to identify trends to support individual and community learning.
