Head of IT Services(Inside IR35)

Job Purpose


This role is a critical member of the IT Senior Management Team, providing senior responsibility for the delivery of core IT capabilities through the effective management of multiple service functions, and acting as an effective ambassador for IT in liaisonwith other areas of the organisation.

Working with the Director, other IT Heads, and Senior Stakeholders in the business, the role holder will be key to ensuring the successful implementation of the University strategy for information and technology, enabling,and providing modern, scalable, and secure integrated platforms to support University business, including blended on-campus and online learning and teaching, research, administration, estate operations and commercial activity.


Person Specification

Experience - Essential

  • Extensive demonstrable leadership skills and experience in building and managing successful, high performing individuals and teams.
  • Experience in leading the successful implementation and adoption of ITIL aligned Service Management within a Service Delivery operation
  • Experience of working with external suppliers, managing large scale contracts and performance management
  • A long history of building strong working relationships with a diverse range of customers, using these relationships to deliver products and services valued by these customers.
  • Experience of communicating, influencing and representing technical leadership in both external and internal meetings and forums.
  • Experience of managing ITSM tools and approaches across multiple teams and organisational levels

Desirable

  • Experience of senior leadership in public sector or Higher Education
  • Demonstrable experience in strategic and operations planning and/or business analysis.

Education & Qualifications - Essential

  • Master's or bachelor's degree in business, computer science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, system analysis or a related field of study, or equivalent experience.

Desirable

  • ITIL V4 Practitioner

Skills & Abilities

  • Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), serviceoriented architecture (SOA), APIs, open data, microservices, eventdriven IT and predictive analytics.
  • Knowledge of business models, operating models, financial models, costbenefit analysis, budgeting and risk management.
  • Experience of technology procurement processes, IT vendor management and strategic partnership development including contract management.
  • Understanding of the different types of agile principles, methodologies and frameworks, especially those designed to be scaled at the enterprise level.
  • Understanding of existing, new and emerging technologies, and processing environments.
  • Strong leadership skills with exceptional soft and interpersonal skills, including teamwork, facilitation and negotiation.
  • Excellent written, verbal, communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate new ideas and concepts to Familiarity with information management practices, system development life cycle management, IT services management, agile and leanmethodologies, infrastructure and operations, and EA and ITIL frameworks.
  • Knowledge of all components of enterprise architecture, business and IT principles and processes. technical and nontechnical audiences.
  • Knowledge of the education (but not necessarily the HE) sector including the strategic challenges and opportunities faced by universities. Excellent analytical, planning, organisational and technical and skills.
