Review, and at times undertake, 48-hour reports into Serious Incidents in conjunction with clinical colleagues. Participate in Table Top discussions regarding RCAs. Maintain Directorate Risk Registers and have oversight whilst giving input into the wider Divisional Risk Register. Maintain action plans relating to Serious Incidents in conjunction with the Trusts Governance Dept and service development action plans.


Maintain systems to ensure compliance with mandatory Training for the group in conjunction with Senior Team Leaders.(Nursing, Medical, ACP) Line management responsibility for the Governance Team, which includes the Complaints Lead, Safeguarding Officer and Governance Support Officer.

To enhance effective working relationships by developing and maintaining good communications and networks with all disciplines within the Directorate, Trust and external agencies.

Promote a multi-professional approach to ensure optimum patient care. Ensure the implementation, monitoring and auditing of Governance, Risk Management and Health and Safety issues within Emergency Services.


Ensure and participate in the education of staff in areas of Health and Safety, Risk Management and Clinical Governance Is responsible for own professional development and is prepared to undertake additional training if required for the post.

Agrees own personal, professional and service objectives.

To facilitate a conducive learning environment under the Governance umbrella and provide learning for health care professionals and non-clinical support staff to develop and maintain the quality patient experience.

To facilitate audits and organise as required by the Directorate, delegating to the governance team as appropriate.


Undertake investigations into untoward incidents, maintain and develop records related to untoward incidents and provide information to Group Management Team.

In conjunction with Matron and working with Speciality Managers, contribute to the development of clinical practices for Emergency services to ensure continuity of care for patients.

Regularly liaise with patients and carers to establish communication and transparency between patients and carers involved with both complaints and RCAs.

Ensure that risk assessments are undertaken in all areas at least annually ensuring that these are available to staff in all areas of the workplace.

Meet with and regularly update the Directorate Senior Management Team regarding any escalation of concerns or delays. Contribute to and undertake national and local audit projects Represent the Department at the Trusts Governance Meetings.

Facilitate educational sessions in order to reduce clinical risk and ensure staff are aware of their responsibilities related to risk.

Be responsible for cascading information to the directorate thus ensuring that the management risk remains high on the staffs agenda.

Liaise with the Divisional Governance post holder as appropriate to ensure dissemination of information. Ensure compliance with all Controls Assurance Standards making recommendations with the limitations of the grade. Ensuring Effective Contribution to the Delivery of the Organisations Objectives Prepare and participate in Directorate / Divisional / Group / Organisational investigations and disciplinary hearings as required Take a lead role for defined projects or pieces of work as agreed Contribute to the delivery of the Trusts strategic objectives Ensure dissemination of knowledge and implementation of plans related to the organisations quality and safety agenda, supporting the preventing harm campaign and adherence to Always Events Demonstrate by self and through designated service areas compliance to the pledges of the NHS Constitution
