Description
To ensure the entire fleet of Uniserve UK Tilbury continues to meet the high standards expected & set. Ensuring that all drivers, vehicles & documents comply with current regulations & rules.

Organising for vehicles to be repaired, defects to be resolved& to continue to improve the standard of professionalism from our LGV driver fleet.

To participate in the daily operation, resolving live driver issues, liaising with customers and reorganising work-schedules to ensure daily work is covered.

Working hours required are Monday to Friday 9am until 19.00


Key Responsibilities

Overall responsibility


To be accountable for the safe & efficient operation of all vehicles in full compliance with existing legislation, agreed policy, procedure, practice, and documentation.


To act as main point of contact for any fleet related compliance in place with internal / external customers and partnership organisations to ensure the requirements of those contracts are adhered to and complied with.


Enable Uniserve to carry out its statutory duties and management of the Goods Vehicle Operator's Licence and to ensure compliance with the responsibilities placed on the authority including holding the required transport qualifications and good repute.


Provide full control of arranging transport movements for group customers from own depot, customer's premises or remote locations with our own in-house transport and external transport solutions on behalf of the Domestic Transit Service.


Ensure that all costs & revenues associated with each job are managed to the highest level providing and associated level of profit.

Manage, monitor & assist drivers whilst on the road conducting Uniserve distribution work.


Appearance and conduct


Due to the senior & important position within the Company, the conduct of the Fleet Manager should be beyond repute, whilst their appearance should mirror this.


General responsibilities


Managing the legislative side of all driver duties, as well as ensuring a safe practice of work is always adhered to.

Overseeing the maintenance, servicing, MOT, defects, etc. of a fleet of vehicles

Disciplining drivers where they have failed to meet the standard expected of them

Ensuring the operations team always have a roadworthy fleet to service our customer base

To ensure all work is covered as required by the most effective method and cost.

Always protect the interests of the business and escalate any areas of concern to the Senior Manager


Be commercially astute and ensure that the services are always making a profit and report any losses or suspicious behavior to the Senior Manager.

Reporting to the Transport Manager


Specific Responsibilities
Driver disciplinaries relating to tachograph misuse or failure to adhere to current regulations, or through issues picked up via vehicle camera system

Ensuring all vehicles are serviced as per schedule & setting KPIs for suppliers

Recordkeeping
- mostly electronic recordkeeping, although there will likely be some physical copies of legal and vehicle documents involved.

Negotiating with Suppliers - to obtain the best prices & develop relationships

Maintaining compliance - meeting compliance responsibilities, whilst also improving driver safety by reducing the risk of accidents.

Analysing data - analysing the data summarised by fleet management software & taking action to rectify any issues

Ensuring we continually meet the requirements of Earned Recognition

Ensure compliance to all Standard Operating Procedures (SOP's) and Legal Requirements.


Being the sole point of contact for all drivers on the road; whether this is to resolve a vehicle maintenance issue or to resolve issues at a delivery/collection, or en route to a delivery/collection.

Deliver excellent customer care and management of all client's expectations.
