Description

We have an exciting opportunity in the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering for someone with a passion for driving sustainability, resource efficiency and circular economy in the foundation industries.

It is ideally suited to someone looking to use their skills in chemical engineering, materials science, chemistry, engineering, or another relevant discipline, to make an impact on waste utilisation and emissions reduction in the foundation industries, to improve the wellbeing of society and the environment.

You will contribute to the aims of the Department by undertaking an industrially-focused research project, and development and engagement activities, in close collaboration with Green Lithium.

Green Lithium Refining Limited is building the UK's first large-scale lithium refinery in Teesside in North-East England, creating a supply of battery-grade lithium chemicals with low carbon-dioxide emissions.

Green Lithium aims to create a secure supply of 'zero-impact' lithium, meaning no process waste and a net-zero-carbon impact.

You will work on the production of circular cements from UK mineral resources by taking a leading role in the development of new processing technology to convert waste by-products that result from lithium refining into a raw material feedstock for the manufacture of cement and concrete, including modern and innovative low-carbon cements.

You will also develop and implement advances in chemical activation of industrial by-product-derived feedstocks, with a key focus on resource efficiency, waste minimisation, and a circular economy.
