Job description

At the University of South Wales (USW) our provision for police education and training is growing.

In 2019, USW became the first university in the UK to have its training for graduate police constables validated through the College of Policing for the delivery of the Degree Holder Entry Programme (DHEP).

USW was also one of the first universities to validate the undergraduate Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA) programme.

These programmes are delivered off-campus within the relevant police force area, through blended learning, in collaboration with one of our partner forces.

Currently these forces are Dyfed Powys, Gwent, South Wales, Gloucester, Wiltshire, Devon & Cornwall, and Dorset Police.

Student officers studying for these qualifications will be undertaking either the BSc (Hons) Professional Policing Practice (the PCDA), or the Graduate Diploma in Professional Policing Practice (the DHEP), and will be newly recruited full time police constables.

In 2021 USW validated both the apprentice and non apprentice Certificate in Community Police Practice for newly appointed Police Community Support Officers.

The successes enjoyed at USW in delivering quality police education and training for the last 15 years has led to this recent portfolio expansion; this has created opportunities for those with the appropriate qualifications, skills, experience and motivation who wish to join the University at this exciting time.

This position relates to the delivery and provision of support for all students, with additional focus on compliance with the apprenticeship rules and requirements of the Police Constable Degree Apprenticeship (PCDA), providing specialist advice to apprentices within the South West of England.

This post is responsible for supporting Student Officers across police forces ensuring ESFA funding rules and Apprenticeship standards are followed.

As such, you will be based either at the USW Pontypridd campus or within the training facilities of one of our partner forces.

The post holder will also be required to travel to one or more of our other partner forces and occasional travel to USW thereafter.

Due to the requirement to work from police premises, forces may also require applicants to undertake additional police vetting.

USW is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults. All those working at the University are expected to share this commitment.
