Your role:

The Sunday Times Ireland are looking for a political correspondent, with strong digital experience, to join our newsroom in Dublin.

We are looking for a journalist with a track
- record of breaking stories across a broad range of areas and the ability to write accurate, engaging copy. A good understanding of how data informs audience interests, an eye for a shareable story and knowing how to make the most of it across different platforms is also required.


Day to day you will:


  • Consistently deliver accurate, engaging copy displaying a deep knowledge of Irish politics across all platforms.
  • Cover major news stories across a broad range of areas
  • Pitch agendasetting exclusive story ideas to the news desk
  • Work collaboratively with other sections across the paper, particularly data, visuals and graphics, to ensure the best presentation of stories on our digital platforms
  • Work with the news team on big projects, campaigns and interviews
  • Build and maintain excellent contacts in current affairs
  • Use social networking and other digital platforms for content generation and to promote The Times and The Sunday Times Ireland content

What we're looking for from you:

  • Experience writing for a national newspaper, magazine or major news website
  • Demonstrable expertise in in politics and a considerable contacts book
  • An inquiring mind that is open to constant learning as technology continues to develop at a rapid pace
  • Tenacity in getting the story and a track record of generating impactful stories that make a difference
  • Keen attention to detail and meticulous factchecking
  • A digitalfirst mindset and the ability to creatively interpret data to inform decision making
  • Good understanding of audience interests and SEO techniques to maximise search results
  • Able to use social media platforms to engage current and new audiences for The Sunday Times Ireland
  • A strong understanding of editorial compliance and regulatory issues
