    Description

    Oxford Economics is seeking an Economist to join our expanding Macroeconomic Modelling and Scenarios team. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing bespoke scenarios for strategic planning or stress testing, as well as supporting financial sector clients with asset return modelling.

    The team leads the company's research on the macroeconomic impacts of climate change, utilising the Global Economic Model (GEM), a leading commercial large-scale macroeconomic model.

    Main Responsibilities

    • Develop Global Scenario Service (GSS) and Global Climate Service (GCS) analysis to explore key risks to the world economy, including the cost of living crisis and sell-offs in asset prices.
    • Produce regular research briefings and analysis on climate-related issues, such as the economic cost of global warming, and develop climate scenarios covering potential risks.
    • Create long-term scenario services to understand the impact of demographics, artificial intelligence, and geopolitical tensions across macroeconomic and financial indicators.
    • Develop bespoke scenarios for strategic or business planning, policy design, regulatory stress tests, and portfolio allocation decisions.
    • Write bespoke research reports on the economic outlook, impact of climate policies, and risk outlook.
    • Generate statistical scenarios for IFRS 9 and CECL accounting standards.

    Working with the GEM

    • Produce regulatory stress tests and economic scenarios using the GEM.
    • Write up scenarios or economic research for subscription services or consultancy projects.
    • Develop bespoke models and forecasts for clients to support business planning or asset allocation decisions.
    • Manage client queries regarding modelling and scenario analysis.

    Requirements

    Around 1-2 years of work experience as an economist or a related field, with a strong education in Economics to at least an undergraduate level. A postgraduate degree in Economics is highly desirable.

    Ability to demonstrate a good understanding of current economic and policy challenges facing the global economy.

    Previous experience in using applied macroeconomic models for forecasting and/or scenario analysis, knowledge of statistical modelling software (such as Python, R, and/or EViews), are desirable skills.
