Description

What is the job really about?
We support people with learning disabilities to live the life _they _choose.

Just like everybody else, they have goals, hopes, aspirations and dreams - and just like everybody else, some days are difficult.

Your role is to provide people with 'just enough support', so that they develop their skills and become ever more independent; to motivate and encourage; to establish healthy routines; and make the connections that can take them in the direction of their goals.

When you do this job really well, you'll have the satisfaction of knowing that you changed someone's life for the better.

Examples of daily routines
The people we support are all different and the extent of their disabilities can vary widely. Everybody has a 'person centred plan' which sets out how we can best support them.

For example, you'll support people to:

  • Live in a happy and stimulating home
  • Be given choice and freedom to develop their own personalities, and pursue their goals
  • Deliver and monitor their Person Centred Plans and maximise their independence
  • Be active in the local community which may include both work and leisure activities
  • Maintain household routines such as shopping; laundry; decorating; home maintenance; gardening; and so on
  • Look after and manage their daytoday finances of individuals and the household
  • Maintain their health and wellbeing including support with medical appointments, prescribed medication and health needs outlined in individuals Health Action plans
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene and personal care
  • Sustain good levels of mental and emotional health
  • Individuals who may be reliant on moving and handling equipment including wheelchairs
  • Take prescribed medication in line with our policies and procedures

This could be the start of something big
Many colleagues enjoy the day-to-day interactions that being a support worker brings. Others want to step onto a career path.

Our CEO and Director of Operations both started out as support workers, so there are no limits as to how far you can go.

We love to promote from within, and where people are identified as wanting to progress, we run a Leadership Development Programme, and put them on a Succession Plan to prepare them for their next step up.

We recruit for values
If you've got experience in this kind of work that's great. If you haven't that's not a problem, if you can show that you share our values. We recruit based on values, because we can train you in the skills.

Our values are really simple we:

  • Show
    Integrity:
  • We communicate openly and honestly and build relationships based on trust, respect and caring.

Rewards
We offer a competitive salary and benefits packages.

We also will pay up to an additional 4% of your salary into a pension plan for you, which will grow every year until you retire.

We provide training and will help you gain your NVQ qualifications, and as we believe in promoting from within, you will also have the chance to progress in your career with us.

You may be required to sleep-in overnight at one of our facilities or people's homes. You'll be paid extra for this and given time off in lieu when you attend house meetings.
You will also receive twenty days paid holiday plus eight statutory bank holidays.
