Job Description:


As the Architecture Team Manager, you will manage the delivery of the central architecture programme of work, operating the request for architecture work process, and performing resource management and allocation.

Interacting with the programme and projectmanagement, and service management practices within the wider business will be essential to delivery business and customer needs.

The role will involve line management responsibilities for technical team members.


Communication and collaboration are paramount to this role, the Architecture Team Manager will be working closely with internal stakeholders on a continuous basis, understanding their needs, and supporting the technical design and implementation of complexproblems, as new opportunities, and ongoing technical refresh activities.


You will own and operate the central architecture technical assurance and governance activities coordinating the review of all design work.


You will own and develop the central architecture team training and development plan ensuring that the team has the required blend of skills to meet the evolving needs of the business, whilst supporting the individual team members needs and career aspirations.


You will support knowledge management initiatives working with team members to develop architecture content for use within the team and to be published to the wider business.


The role is primarily home based with an expectation that travel to NEC offices and customer locations will be required on an ad-hoc basis.


Responsibilities will include:
Work with the senior architecture team to specify and implement the central architecture programme of work.

  • Manage the onboarding of new architecture work, own and maintain the central architecture work item backlog.
  • Perform work item classification and assignment to architecture team resources.
  • Own and operate the technical assurance board.
  • Operate the internal technical architecture team peer review process for all technical designs.
  • Engage with the wider business supporting programme, project, and risk management.
  • Support the implementation of architecture designs, ensuring that knowledge transfer is provided to support teams with handson support where necessary.
  • Support the technology roadmap process coordinating investigations related to new and existing technologies enabling controlled technology adoption.
  • Provide line management to the technical architecture team and support development of colleagues against the architecture skills framework.
  • Undertake continuous learning to maintain knowledge of the key technologies in use by NEC, emerging technology trends, and industry standards to support business innovation through intelligent use of IT.

Qualifications:


Essential

  • Proven experience managing technical teams.
  • Ability to manage a programme of work comprising multiple concurrent work items, including standalone projects and workstreams within larger projects.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, demonstrating a variety of influencing styles enabling effective collaboration with colleagues to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Desire to undertake selflearning to ensure awareness of emerging techniques and technologies.

Desirable

  • Formal project or programme management qualifications: Prince2, PMP, MSP
  • Experience managing projects involving the design and implementation of enterprise and security architecture solutions, multitenanted community cloud platform, solutions deployed to a multitenanted community cloud platform, solutions deployed to publiccloud platforms.
  • Experience managing projects involving designing and delivering solutions within the UK Government domain.
  • Familiarity with compliance & security standards across the enterprise IT landscape such as ISO 27001 and NCSC Cyber Essentials.
  • Familiarity with ITIL service management principles & tools, and their use in an enterprise environment.
  • Experience in a technical role designing architecture solutions within enterprise, security, or technical architecture domains.
  • Knowledge of core NEC technologies including:
  • Operating Systems: Microsoft Windows, Oracle Solaris, Linux.
  • Server Virtualisation: VMware vSphere, Oracle OVM for x86 or Oracle OVM for Sparc.
  • Networking: Cisco Switches, Cisco Firewalls, Palo Alto Firewalls.
  • Storage: NetApp SANs.
  • Backup: Dell IDPA, HP Data Protector.
  • Public Cloud Platforms: Microsoft Azure, Amazon Web Services, Oracle OCI.
