Have you got experience in CNC programming and machining?


Within the Department of Mechanical Engineering we require a highly skilled, adaptable and self-motivated machinist to provide technical support to the Mechanical Services Main Workshop and CNC Manufacturing facility.


About the role:


You will be responsible for providing technical advice, instruction and support to academic and research staff and students in the Department of Mechanical Engineering.

Duties will include;
- supporting our student automotive race teams including both mechanical and electric powered vehicles and our electric motorcycle team
- providing instruction to our undergraduates in the safe operation of conventional lathes and milling machines in our student workshop.


About you:


To succeed, you will be proficient in the safe operation and use of a variety of mechanical workshop machine tools together with design, fitting and assembly skills.

You will also have;
- a recognised toolroom / technician / mechanical engineering apprenticeship
- relevant qualifications at A-level or degree level
- substantial experience of working in an engineering machine shop or toolroom environment using both CNC and conventional machine tools and associated equipment.


Knowledge and experience of Computer Aided Design (CAD) programming would be an advantage but training will be available if necessary to develop these skills.


Further information:

The role is a full time (36.5 hours) position, but we can consider flexible working.
