    Description

    Principal OHL Design Engineer

    We are seeking a highly experienced Principal OHL Design Engineer to work for one of our clients based in the UK.

    About the Role

    This is a senior design engineering position responsible for leading the production of all design elements associated with new build and refurbishment of overhead transmission lines in the UK.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Taking ownership and leading production of OHL detailed design packages.
    • Ensuring compliance of designs with client and national technical standards.
    • Leading team of junior engineers on the production of design packages and supporting their technical development.
    • Preparing calculations and technical/equipment specification documentation.
    • Undertaking consultancy role on FEED stage projects, including production of technical reports and presentations.
    • Maintaining compliance to CDM Regulations and all other legal and regulatory requirements associated with the nature of Overhead Line works.
    • Overall OHL design with PLS-CADD in accordance with BS-EN 50341.
    • Analysis of OHL structures with PLS-Tower.

    Requirements

    Qualifications

    • BSc/BEng or MSc/MEng or equivalent in Structural or Civil Engineering.
    • Chartered or Incorporated Engineer professional status, or equivalent or working towards.

    Essential Experience

    • Experience in PLS-CADD, PLS-Tower is essential.
    • Significant experience in HV OHL design in the UK electricity transmission & distribution sector.
    • Thorough knowledge and experience applying SPEN, SSEN, and / or National Grid Technical Specification, Technical Guidance Notes, Supplier Requirements and Design Handbooks relating to Overhead Line Design in the UK.
    • Thorough understanding of current Construction (Design & Management) Regulations, UK Health & Safety legislation, and Sustainability principles.
