Description
My client is a well-established and very successful design and manufacturing company. They supply high quality products to customers world-wide. At present they require an experienced CAD/CAM Programmer.You will be responsible for programming, setting, and operating various CNC machines across the site.
They will be expected to create CNC programmes for lathes, VMC's and 5-axis machines through either offline CAM software or manually using the drawing,design data and standards provided by the engineering department.
Duties and responsibilities:
- Health, Safety and Environmental duties:
- All employees have the duty to ensure the health safety and welfare of themselves, others and the environment and to comply with the Company HS&E policy.
Ensure that the team are operating in line with the documented HSE procedures and flag up any concerns to Team Leader or Manager.
Role Duties:
- Creating CNC programmes and working with engineering to ensure new products can be manufactured efficiently and to the required quality levels.
Use a combination of techniques such as CAD/CAM to develop CNC programmes for high and low volume production and prototype components.
Ensure that the most economical process is achieved in terms of speed, metal removal & tooling cost to maximise components per hour and machine utilisation.
Ensure manufacturing activities are carried out in line with the agreed quality standards/production documentation and that in process quality checks are carried out.
Reporting and service/maintenance issues to the maintenance team for resolution
Training employees in agreed production and process methods & supporting technicians / apprentices as required
Ensure the housekeeping of the area is of a high standard.
Working on CI projects to increase productivity, reduce cost and improve quality of the machining processes.
Any other duties that may from time to time be reasonably expected.
Skills & Attributes:
- Ability to program, set and run a range of CNC machines, working with all types of materials, but principally brass, steel and aluminium.
Ability to write offline CNC programs using CAM software.
Ability to operate a measuring equipment, including a CMM. (MITATOYO Cryster-Apex)
Be innovative in terms of problem solving and adaption to changes.
Interact with internal customers on a technical level.
Ability to work independently and meet critical deadlines and get others to do the same.
Determination & high standards of workmanship.
Ability to work as part of the wider business team.
A good attitude, flexible to challenges and possible changes is essential.
Qualifications/ experience
Excellent knowledge of programming, setting and operating CNC machines to exact tolerances using various methods including turning, milling and 5 axis.
Competent CNC programmer with proven ability to write offline programmes using CAM software (ideally SolidCAM but any relevant CAM experience would be considered).
Understanding of the HSE & COSHH implications of working with cutting fluids/chemicals.
Experience of CNC/CAM programming.
Knowledge of Heidenhain, Mazatrol and Iso control systems preferred although training given to skilled applicants.
Hours are (37 per week) Monday to Thursday 7.30am to 16.00pm and Fridays 7.30am to 12.30pm
