Maintenance Specialist and Planner - Mechanical:

We are seeking a Maintenance Specialist and Planner to join our Utilities team within our Olefins & Polymers UK Business based in Grangemouth.

Please note this is a 6-month rolling contract position.


Job Purpose
Provide support for delivery of the Asset Maintenance Programme and longer term Asset strategy.

Within the Maintenance and Planning team, support the definition, preparation, scheduling and completion of Integrity, Preventive and Corrective works to maintain Plant availability.


This role is within the INEOS Infrastructure department which operates the Grangemouth Site Power Station, Regasser Unit, Chemical Handling Unit, Site Cooling Water system, Site Common Flare Systems and all inter-asset Distribution Equipment.


Key Accountabilities

  • Support the identification, preparation, planning, scheduling and completion of work for the allocated discipline(s) / tasks on the Utilities Asset.
  • Specifically for this role, but not limited to, support the completion of allocated Mechanical Statutory Inspection work scopes on the Utilities asset.

These include items such as:

  • Vessel Inspections
  • Pipework Inspections
  • Safety Relief Valve Inspections
  • Process Equipment Inspections
  • Fully and correctly identify the scope of work for all allocated Preventative (TBM / PM) and corrective (CM / CEB) on the utilities asset.
  • Within MAXIMO, Prepare workorders (incl. the preparation of Scope Workpacks) as necessary for all resources required to successfully deliver the scope. Resources may include scaffold, insulation, mechanical technician, electrical technician, instrument technician, inspection (NDT), Hire Equipment, Other third party contractors (fabrication, cleaning, crane / lifting, etc).
  • Preparation of work includes, but is not limited to:
  • Preparation of a detailed scope of work document incl. site visits, photos, P&IDs, task breakdown and resource identification.
  • MAXIMO Workorder creation for the scope of work identifying correct resources, number of labour units, task durations, materials, supporting equipment (ie. Breathing Apparatus etc)
  • Identifying the correct sequence of tasks to complete the scope of work.
  • Planning of work includes, but is not limited to:
  • Discussing with the Maintenance, Operations, Engineering and Technical teams to determine appropriate WO priority and Target Start / Finish Dates.
  • Completing preparation works in line with the maintenance workflow process and to meet target Finish dates and avoid backlog.
  • Completing / maintaining accurate plans of upcoming works to meeting Target finish dates.
  • Scheduling of work includes, but is not limited to:
  • Add required scheduling information directly in to P
  • Ability to add to & edit the schedule as required in line with asset procedures.
  • Completion of work includes, but is not limited to:
  • Provision of updates of work progress gained via on-site supervision.
  • Support of emergent issues as appropriate.
  • Support the Management / control the cost of maintenance to achieve best value for INEOS.
  • Identification of Safety, Health and Environment requirements of the task as part of preparation stage (identification of correct Method Statements / Risk Assessments / Safety Data Sheets (COSHH)
  • Identification of site permit to work requirements at the preparation stage. Items such as Breathing Apparatus, Excavation Authorisations, Working on Live Equipment Authorisations, Asbestos Notifications, etc.
  • Support the development of the short, mid and long term asset maintenance plan to safely deliver the required asset integrity and availability.
  • Deliver works in accordance with the INEOS Maintenance Workflow process.
  • Plan and prepare work to ensure no overdue statutory items
  • Take ownership of allocated tasks and monitor progress of works, facilitate / drive completion to meet or beat agreed timescales.
  • Preparing Risk Assessed Permit (RAP) documents as necessary (particularly with respect to defining the scope of work and the methods and tools to be used) and passing to Control Of Work (COW) team for checking and review of process release/isolation aspects etc.

Skills, Knowledge and Qualifications

  • 3 years' experience in Mechanical Maintenance Work Preparation, Planning or Project Engineering in the Petrochemical / Power / Oil and Gas / Refining Industry or >5 years' experience as a time served Mechanical Maintenance tradesperson seeking to progress to a Work Preparation / Planning or Project Engineering role.
  • HNC and NVQ Level 3 or equivalent. Mechanical bias preferred.
  • Good understanding of typical maintenance workflow processes.
  • Good understanding and experience of using MAXIMO 7.6 to define, prepare, track work including the upkeep of critical asset information.
  • Awareness of scheduling theory and tools (Primavera).
  • Understanding of budgeting processes and cost control.
  • Proficient in computer systems such as MS office suite,
