The Role:

Support the administration of the Attendance Legal Process and provide guidance to schools to help us improve school attendance for children and young people.


This is an exciting opportunity to join Hampshire's Legal Intervention Team, working closely with schools and colleagues within Childrens Services.

  • You will focus on supporting the most vulnerable children and young people to engage in education and learning and to improve school attendance. Vulnerable children, especially those with complex needs have varying levels of coping skills and resilience which may have been exacerbated by the pandemic.
  • Having an open mind about what children may be experiencing and how they are coping will be an important part of the role and will draw upon many skills. You will work alongside Attendance Intervention Officers to provide advice and guidance to schools on the legal process for school attendance and administer the Attendance Legal Process on behalf of the Local Authority.
  • You will need to process documentation for legal services and you may need to attend court if required. You will attend County Inclusion Support Service meetings and Legal Intervention team meetings. The role will require you to liaise with other agencies and partners, creating Voluntary Parenting Contracts to improve outcomes for children. A confident communicator, you'll bring experience in supporting and engaging with children and families in a range of settings and you will need excellent written and communication skills.
  • With a positive attitude and a willingness to learn, you'll be able to adapt to constantly changing situations and priorities.

    Please note the role will require you to travel and some locations are away from public transport routes. Your work base will be in Winchester.
  • You will have sound knowledge and understanding of the importance of school attendance. Good recordkeeping skills, an empathic approach and a genuine passion for working with children will be essential.
