There is an exciting opportunity to join the technical team at Levenseat in an interesting and varied role as an Environmental Technician coordinating sampling/analysis of mineral products e.g., recycled aggregates and other materials (e.g. compost) bothon site and by external laboratories.

Salary will be in the range of £26,000 to £28,000 depending on qualifications and experience. This is a permanent role with a 3-month trial period. There are excellent opportunities for career development and you'll be supported to grow your skills.


Reporting to the Lead Engineer, the majority of the work will be office/laboratory based at our main site located between Edinburgh and Glasgow but will also involve working outdoors and some travel to other operational sites.


Key responsibilities of the Environmental Technician include:

  • managing and further developing the sample and analysis tracking process e.g., quality of recycled aggregates produced and data from trials/innovation projects.
- preparing sampling plans, advising on the most appropriate analyses, and taking samples to meet quality standards.
- sourcing and communicating with external laboratories, raising purchase orders, packing samples, ensuring chain of custody documentation is completed accurately, arranging couriers for collection of samples.
- maintaining and developing the on-site laboratory facilities including ordering and stock control.
- carrying out sample processing and basic analyses in the on-site laboratory e.g. pH, moisture, particle size distribution by sieve analysis, and documenting test results.
- assisting with preparation of product datasheets, project reports, and other documentation.
- ensuring all work is carried out to high environmental and health and safety standards.

Essential Skills:


  • Some experience in a relevant laboratory environment and an understanding of basic sample handling and processing.
  • Computer literate, competent user of Microsoft Office suite in particular Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work with a high level of accuracy
  • Willingness to work outdoors and in all weathers
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills
  • Full UK driving licence

Desirable Skills:


  • Experience of sampling mineral products or other materials and carrying out basic analyses e.g. pH, moisture, undertaking sieve analysis for PSD.
  • Experience of data entry and sample tracking systems
  • An understanding of waste classification e.g., WM3, waste management legislation, meeting endofwaste criteria.
  • An understanding of Best Available Techniques (BAT) and their relevance to resource management.
  • Strong report writing skills
  • Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel
