Strategic Financial Advisor

An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Greater Manchester Police finance team. The position will be to provide a comprehensive customer-focused finance support service to a number of divisional and/or branch budget holders

To work with budget holders to ensure that their resources are managed efficiently and effectively to achieve policing targets, Force priorities and deliver Value for Money (VfM)

Some of the main duties and responsibilities.

You will be part of the team that manages the delivery of an efficient, effective, and high-quality services to assigned budget holders, and to build and maintain effective working relationships

You will provide professional financial advice to budget holders in the production of forecasts and financial commentaries and to make recommendations on control action necessary to achieve a balanced budget

Challenge the "status quo" and recommend changes to the way business is conducted, to deliver Value for Money services.

To interpret and analyse financial reports and identify variances and trends that require investigation, and ensure that any corrective action is identified and followed up

To provide support at divisional and/or branch SLT meetings, Quarterly Performance Review (QPR) meetings, and local performance review meetings

To be responsible for providing timely, accurate and high-quality financial information to budget holders and for central reporting purposes

To deliver, contribute or lead on specific strategic finance or business projects, and ad-hoc assignments as required, ensuring deadlines are met and overall targets are achieved, as well as seeing through the implementation of policy changes

As required, provide financial input into GMP published documents


To be able to represent the Branch at both internal and external meetings, we are also looking for someone who will be comfortable working as part of a team, working under pressure and tight timescales, it is essential to the role that you have good numeracy skills and demonstrates clear verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail is vital showing evidence of consistently producing work to a high standard of accuracy.
