Job Title:
Functional Maths and English Tutor


Hours:
Full-Time, Part-Time & Flexible posts available depending on Cohorts.

Job Purpose
The role is to deliver Maths and English Functional Skills courses from Entry Level 1 to Level 2.

You will have an active role in assisting learners to help them progress into further education, employment, training or volunteering.

You will be responsible for teaching Employability, Personal Development and Functional Skills, often to challenging and disengaged people who may have disabilities and/or learning difficulties.


As the Functional Skills Tutor, you will effectively plan and prepare the course content including the SOW, lesson plans and learning resources.

You will support the team in ensuring the courses are run effectively and the service provided reflects the ethos of PRS.

You will support the wider team of Tutors in embedding Functional Skills into the rest of the curriculum, and ensuring directives and policies are reflected and implemented in everyday practice.

You will be accountable to the Managing Director.


This is a year-round position, not term time only.

General Responsibilities

  • To fully understand the aims, objectives and ethos of PRS Inclusion and Training Services and to reflect these in your daily working life
  • To adhere to PRS's policies and procedures
  • To act in a professional yet approachable manner at all times
  • To attend regular meetings and supervisions to help your own professional development
  • To attend training as required
  • Any other duties commensurate with the grade and status of the post required or requested by the Managing Director

Working with learners

  • To assess, plan and deliver functional skills English and Maths to all learners on an individual or group basis according to learners learning needs and requirements
  • To deliver English and Maths functional skills to mixed ability, mixed level groups according to the standards of the awarding body with the assistance of a classroom and/or learner support.
  • To design and deliver engaging sessions, including activities and projects
  • To work alongside the Education and Training Centre Manager to develop a highquality functional skills curriculum
  • To be part of ongoing assessment of learners learning needs and to make adjustments as required minimising barriers to learning and achievement (working to Education and Health Care Plans)
  • To plan and organise functional skills examinations and assessments, and invigilate exams
  • To develop a professional 'mentor' relationship with learners, always keeping appropriate and transparent boundaries
  • To encourage growth and selfconfidence by working with learners to develop all aspects of employability, personal development and functional skills
  • To ensure learners are following health and safety and behavioural guidelines
  • To deal with challenging or inappropriate behaviour in a professional manner according to company guidelines and disciplinary procedures
  • To lead by example as a good role model at all times, adhering to safeguarding and health and safety policies

Working with other organisations

  • To maintain excellent working relationships with other agencies and employers to encourage good multiagency working

Administration and clerical

  • To keep thorough, confidential and up to date client records for the purpose of effective and efficient client working, using cloudbased databases and Microsoft Office programmes
  • To ensure all documentation is completed accurately and to a high standard and in accordance with guidelines set by the training contract and awarding body
  • To maintain and update all manual and computerised training records

Variation in the Role


Given the dynamic nature of the business, there will be a need for flexibility in the role and responsibilities where the need arises.

The duties specified above are, therefore, not to be regarded as either exclusive or exhaustive.

They may change from time to time commensurate with the grading level of the post and following consultation with the member of staff.
