An exciting opportunity has arisen for a proactive, self-motivated and client-focused individual to join our Wills, Probate, Tax & Trusts team based in Derby.


The Will Writer will be responsible for the creation of a range of documentation from basic and mirror wills to those of a more complex nature including property trusts, exclusion of family members and those with multiple beneficiaries.


Where appropriate, the Will Writer will assist other fee-earners in the team, manage workloads using the case management system and complete associated administrative tasks.

This role reports directly to Claire Rudkin, Head of Wills, Probate, Tax and Trusts.

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

  • Taking instructions from clients in relation to the drafting of wills, this will initially be via a telephone enquiry through to facetoface meetings, video calls via Zoom/Teams/FaceTime/WhatsApp/Skype and home visits.
  • Advising on the most appropriate will and lasting power of attorney.
  • Drafting wills and ancillary documents and correspondence.
  • Preparing and registering LPAs.
  • Dealing with telephone enquiries.
  • Progressing matters by communicating where necessary with clients.
  • Closing files and registering documents.
  • Managing time each week to allow for client meetings and the officebased preparation of wills following receipt of client instructions.
  • Working with the wider Wills team to ensure that all requests are carried out in a timely manner and in accordance with the department's SLAs.
  • Liaising with the administration team to ensure the case management system and will bank is kept uptodate.
  • Ensuring financial targets are met.
  • Ensuring that all firmwide and departmental SLAs and procedures are followed.
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

You will:

  • Have previous experience in a Will Writing role;
  • Have proficient IT skills;
  • Be able to communicate at all levels within the team and with clients;
  • Possess good listening skills;
  • Be able to prioritise workloads;
  • Be able to remain polite and professional at all times; and
  • Be able to use your own initiative.
  • Disclosure will be required in the event that a position is offered._

  • Preferably have previous experience in cash collection/debt recovery.
  • Be able to work alone and manage your own caseload.
