Job overview:


The Research & Development department at University Hospitals Birmingham has a Band 2 Receptionist post available, to assist in the provision of clinical trial services This post will be working with the research team, based at Heartlands Hospital.


As a Research Worker you will be responsible for supporting the research teams to deliver high quality care to research patients.

You will be the point of contact for patients and visitors to the department.

Excellent communications skills, a keen team player and the ability to work on your own initiative as well as working in a team environment are essential.

The post holder must have a flexible approach to this post.


This post offers the opportunity to assist the team with participants' care pathways within research and working in collaboration with clinical teams offers personal development and job satisfaction.


You will have the opportunity to further develop excellent interpersonal communication, organisation, time management, documentation skills and work with more experienced researchers.

Main duties, tasks & skills required:

The overall activities of the post-holder will include:

  • To welcome staff, patients and visitors in a friendly and professional manner, dealing with enquiries appropriately.
  • Opening and distributing of daily post.
  • Undertake daily and monthly filing.
  • Answering the telephone in a courteous manner recording all messages accurately and referring on appropriately.
  • To maintain confidentiality of records on the telephone and in conversation.
  • Ensure the reception area is kept tidy.
  • Organise ordering of stationary and storage.
