An exciting opportunity for an aspiring Bid Writer to join our central work winning team to be responsible and accountable for written proposal elements of bid activities, effectively contributing towards and managing responses with technical leads for AmcoGiffen.

Business Unit


A busy and fast paced region within our growing organisation, involved in a range of civil engineering works in a variety of sectors to include rail (bridges, embankments, stations, platforms, tunnels etc.), Environment Agency, Local Authority etc.

The business units in the North are involved in multi-disciplinary civils projects, whether one off tendered projects or projects/remits within our long term framework / contract agreements with key clients.


Existing contracts include CP6 infrastructure projects, Network Rail reactive / planned maintenance and Infrastructure projects, Environment Agency frameworks with works typically including bridge re-construction/replacement, upgrades and refurbishments, railway station works, heavy civils, tunnels and footbridges.


The Role
As Bid Writer, you will play a key role in our central work winning team, responsible and accountable for written proposal elements of bid activities, effectively contributing towards and managing responses with technical leads for AmcoGiffen

Key responsibilities within the role of Bid Manager will include but not be limited to:

  • Work closely with the Pre-Contract Director / Work Winning Director / Senior Pre-Contracts Manager / Pre-Contract Manager / Senior Proposals Manager / Proposals Manager and other Directors and Managers to ensure that the written proposals elements of business and work winning opportunities are produced to the highest standard.
  • Management and completion of prequalification & tender stage written documentation in conjunction with the relevant functions within the business.
  • Manage/coordinate any written proposals requirements for Client's Expression of Interest or inquiry questionnaires.
  • Develop and produce answer plans for major bids to ensure response requirements and client objectives are fully captured, identified and communicated, and that a proposals strategy has been developed to address these requirements and objectives.
  • Carry out answer planning and writing support with nominated technical authors.
  • Check Tender Information for completeness.
  • Ensure Client TQ's and Tender addendum information is reviewed and dealt with in the written tender submissions.
  • Produce/edit/review relevant document templates such as answer responses, CV's and organisation charts.
  • Comply with / Manage File structures / storage / printing / distribution.
  • Review the employer's requirement documentation and highlight discrepancies and key actions.
  • Develop appropriate written proposals and responses in a timely manner.
  • Attend prequalification and bid/tender meetings as required in order to identify the appropriate submissions and proposals requirements and the input required from key support functions.
  • Coordinate written submissions and proposals input with others.
  • Provide personal input into technical and descriptive writing for submissions, proposals and their supporting documentation.
  • Be proactively involved in the review and editing processes for quality submissions.
  • Attend and contribute to key tender launch, interim / progress meetings.
  • Monitor tender feedback from the client ensuring that opportunities to improve the company's success are acted upon for written responses.
  • Assist, where required, any Client Post Tender question responses in a timely manner.
  • Input into the post tender analysis process
  • Work closely with the Pre-Contract/Work Winning Director / Senior Pre-Contract / Pre-Contract / Bid Manager / Senior Proposals Manager / Proposals Manager and Directors to develop processes and help to implement any business improvement initiatives.
  • Assist in the collation and coordination of the input onto 'Workspace' any 'bestinclass' responses and project evidence (e.g. Project Data Sheets, Case Studies etc.) and support the production of any AmcoGiffen marketing material
  • Work closely with the other functions in the department to develop and implement bid winning strategies from early in the tender process.
  • If required, work with joint venture and supply chain partners to develop and coordinate quality submissions for major projects / framework bids.
  • Ensure compliance in accordance with policies and associated procedures.
