The Post

Student Recruitment sits within the Directorate for Communications, Marketing and Recruitment (CMR) and holds responsibility for the planning and implementation of effective recruitment strategies to grow student numbers, in line with the University's Strategic Plan.


The Head of International Recruitment will provide leadership and strategic direction for the international student recruitment team, based both in Stirling and overseas.

The postholder will lead on all aspects of international student recruitment, including the provision of timely and insightful market intelligence to senior management and other key stakeholders.


Description of Duties

  • In collaboration with the Director of Student Recruitment & Admissions, provide strategic leadership for all aspects of the international undergraduate and postgraduate recruitment and conversion process
  • Linemanage the international student recruitment team, reporting on performance against targets
  • Collate, analyse and interpret marketrelated data and prepare management information for senior management, reporting on trends, providing insights and making recommendations to inform strategy
  • Identify growth and business development opportunities and respond effectively to emerging issues
  • Provide support, guidance and advice to faculties and divisions to develop and deliver recruitment plans in line with faculty and University objectives to drive sustainable growth in student recruitment numbers
  • Provide Directorate and institutionalwide leadership on the implementation of operational activity to meet recruitment objectives
  • Lead on the strategic implementation of the University's partnership with INTO IUP and the INTO JV, overseeing the successful delivery of shared KPIs
  • Oversee the effective management of the University's international agent network to successfully deliver on performance targets, in line with the BUILA Agent Quality Framework
  • Represent the University externally, attending meetings and participating in sectoral committees and groups at a local and national level
  • Represent Student Recruitment and CMR at internal meetings and committees
  • Ensure the international recruitment team operational budget is planned, spent, and monitored effectively, with evaluation and reporting on spend to maximise return on investment
  • Initiate, coordinate and work collaboratively with colleagues across the institution to lead Directorate and institutional projects designed to enhance the international student experience and maximise conversion from enquiry through to enrolment
  • Prepare written and oral briefings and committee papers to inform university strategy, including in relation to UKVI requirements, fees and scholarships and academic requirements, making recommendations to support recruitment targets
  • Participate in the activities of the wider Directorate and carry out other duties, project work or representational duties as directed by the Executive Director of CMR
  • Deputise for the Director of Student Recruitment & Admissions, and Executive Director of CMR as required
  • Participate in UK and overseas travel as required

Essential Criteria

  • A first degree, ideally complemented by relevant higher qualifications, professional qualifications or continuing professional development
  • Successful and demonstrable track record in a management position within international student recruitment in a comparable higher education environment
  • Demonstrable evidence of performance delivery against student recruitment targets
  • Detailed knowledge of, and established networks in, several key international recruitment markets
  • Proven interpersonal skills, including leadership, negotiation, influencing and relationship building
  • Strong understanding of the opportunities and challenges affecting UK Higher Education in terms of student recruitment and international partnership development
  • Proven ability to lead, manage and motivate teams
  • A committed mentor, people developer and team builder with a confirmed capability to work effectively in a teambased organisation, collaborate crossfunctionally and internationally, exercise influence at all levels and build alignment around a common vision
  • Proven ability to lead and manage change, engaging and motivating others to support innovation and development
  • Strong communication skills combined with a high degree of cultural sensitivity
  • Able to convey complex concepts and strategies, verbally and in writing
