Warehouse Operative Day-to-Day Responsibilities

On a warehouse operation job, you'll be expected to do the following:

  • Receive goods at the loading/receiving dock
  • Store received goods in the appropriate locations within the warehouse
  • Check loads for damaged or missing items upon receipt
  • Move and rearrange stock, either by hand or with heavy lifting equipment
  • Keep careful records of everything that comes in and goes out of the warehouse
  • Clean the space and ensure that goods don't get damaged
  • Work with a team
  • Load goods onto trucks for shipping
  • Sample preparation for customers
Six essential skills needed to work in warehouse operations are:


  • Forklift Experience: Knowing how to operate a forklift will open up many more employment opportunities.

IT Skills: For data entry and inventory.

Spatial Thinking: You'll have a huge advantage in this work if you can visualise ways to organise for maximum efficiency.

High-Energy: Being a self-starter with a high level of energy will help you excel in this job.

Cleaning Experience: The job often involves cleaning up the warehouse space.

Securing Loads: Being able to tie down loads quickly and securely will be an important skill to bring to the work.
