This role will be responsible for defining our strategy and approach to Delivery Management and setting professional standards for the discipline: you will represent and promote the profession within the organisation and externally to build the reputation of NHSBSA's Delivery Management function.

Defining DDAT's strategy and approach to Delivery Management and setting professional standards for the discipline (in line with CDDO and NHS Service Standards).


  • Professionally lead a team of Delivery Management professionals, providing strategic leadership as Head of Profession and of the Delivery Management community, creating the conditions which enable the team to be their best and thrive, championing personal growth and development of the team.
  • You will be responsible for the professional career pathway for Delivery Management and support professional development and continuous improvement of your community, and support recruitment across the Delivery Management roles.
  • Work across our delivery teams and collaborate with Heads of Delivery and Consultancy, the NHSBSA Portfolio Office and Assurance Team, and other Heads of Profession to ensure that all services we deliver meet the directorates and users' needs and are ultimately delivered in the most effective and safe way.
  • Be comfortable at both the strategic level, and the detail when necessary where you will provide expert delivery support to complex projects and transformation initiatives using a wide range of tools and methods.
  • Role model and actively participate in achieving the NHSBSA purpose and goals through the development of organisational and directorate culture that is open, empowers innovation and champions' ongoing service development and performance improvement.

In this role, you are accountable for

  • The post holder will ultimately be responsible for professionally leading Delivery Management in DDaT; and therefore, be a vital part of the Delivery DDaT leadership team and accountable for the hands-on leadership of the Delivery Management community (Junior Delivery Managers, Delivery Managers, Lead Delivery Managers, and Heads of Delivery and Consultancy).
  • Defining DDaT's approach for Delivery Management, creating the right environment and processes to establish Delivery Management as a profession and embed it within the organisation.
  • Leading the professional community for Delivery Management, establishing standards and best practice, creating the conditions which enable the team to perform and excel, and ensuring transparency and engagement and collaboration across the team and the wider organisation.
  • Formulating and implementing the long-term delivery strategy. Using your own initiative to interpret wider system requirements (primarily, CDDO (Central Digital and Data Office), NHS England, and NHS Transformation) and approaches, and advising the wider NHSBSA on its implementation.
