Description
As deputy editor, you will be part of the small editorial team behind _New Humanist _magazine.Your main responsibilities will be assisting the editor on the quarterly print magazine, as well taking the lead on the _New Humanist_ website and social media channels.
There is also a possibility of co-hosting the Rationalist Association podcast, _With Reason._You will be self-employed, on a rate of £190 per day, for 2-3 days a week. More days are usually needed as the magazine approaches its print deadline. Ideally, the deputy editor would come into our offices in Cambridge Heath for two days a week. However, the job is flexible and working from home part of the time will be negotiable.
The start date is 1 March, 2023.
Essential criteria:
- Editorial experience on a general interest publication, including a trackrecord of commissioning.
- Ability to think strategically and generate new ideas
- Ability to work on a small team, multitasking and problemsolving
- Good knowledge of social media
- Basic understanding of marketing within the media industry
Desirable criteria:
- Enthusiasm and support for rationalism and humanism
- Experience of commissioning on culture, science and big ideas
- Experience of editing long features, including working on structural edits
- Knowledge of the publishing industry, particularly small magazines
- Advanced journalistic skills
