    About the Role

    Ecology by Design is currently seeking a Senior Ecologist to join our team. We strive to employ the best and brightest and reward hard work and dedication. Our company provides ecology consultancy services to a wide range of clients, focusing on technical excellence and innovative, pragmatic solutions.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a senior ecologist to challenge themselves and develop well-rounded consultancy skills, while also having the autonomy to deliver projects independently.

    Key Responsibilities

    • Conduct Preliminary Ecological Appraisals (habitat surveys and condition assessments), Biodiversity Impact Assessments, protected and priority species surveys, and prepare quotations and tenders;
    • Lead field teams and manage projects, with flexibility required as needed by a new business;
    • Design surveys and quote for work, while maintaining excellent report writing skills;
    • Collaborate with colleagues, clients, and third parties through good communication skills;
    • Obtain survey licenses for protected species and secure European Protected Species Mitigation licences;
    • Work both independently and as part of a team, often in remote locations and sometimes during unsociable hours;
    • Drive company growth and innovation, leveraging specialist ecological knowledge and expertise.

    Requirements

    • Genuine enthusiasm for ecology and the environment;
    • Experience of phase 1 habitat surveys/ UK Habs and protected species surveys;
    • Survey licence for at least one protected species e.g. bats, dormouse, GCN, barn owl, rare reptiles etc;
    • Full driving licence and use of a car;
    • Degree or equivalent in an ecology related discipline; and
    • Member of CIEEM (or eligible if not currently held).
