Project Planner
£550 daily inside IR35
6 months contract
- The role of the Project Planner is to work with stakeholders to ensure all aspects of the project are defined. The planner provides clarity on key milestones to define what, when and how activities will be organised to ensure the outcomes of a project can be achieved, with the resources available. You will need to be able to lead on all aspects of project planning, which will include the development, updating and monitoring of plans and schedules. You will identify tasks, activities, inter dependencies and outputs for the project and work with the project team to track and monitor progress against the plan throughout the life of the project.
- The roles will require excellent project planning skills and an ability to adapt and be flexible in a changing environment and areas of political sensitivity. You will need to manage a number of high profile stakeholders with conflicting priorities. Procedures and methodologies will often need to be tailored or adapted to suit unique situations. You will have effective leadership, interpersonal and communication skills.
- We are therefore looking for experienced project planners with a strong track record in successful delivery. These are stretching roles that offers strong potential for professional development.
Key responsibilities:

Delivery & Leadership - Provide visible and effective leadership, lead the planning team for your Outcome Delivery Area and work with the project manager to deliver the business case benefits and outcomes. Develop clear vision and standards and champion the use of best practice project planning standards, tools and processes. Build strong networks both internally and externally.

Resources - Identify future capacity and capability needs of the project planning function and puts in place strategies to meet them.

Stakeholder Management - Build and maintain external networks to access technical and professional best practice.

Project Performance & Controls - Analyse performance data, looking at trends to identify areas for improvement and collaboration, and selecting appropriate methods and tools to resolve them.

Guidance & Support - Provide specialist advice and support to ensure successful delivery of projects. Provide guidance and advice to the Project Manager during project initiation on selection of planning approach, tools, processes and proportionality. Identify and lead the introduction of best practice planning processes, tools and templates, using industry standard best practice as a benchmark. Build planning capability.

Risks & Issues - ensure strategic and operational risks and issues are identified, prioritised, assessed, and appropriate mitigating actions developed, implemented and monitored throughout the life of the project. Ensure senior stakeholders and specialists are engaged where appropriate.
The individual will have these essential skills & experience:
- Have significant experience in planning either complex or high-risk projects within agreed time, cost and quality constraints.
- Be experienced, credible & proactive in dealing with a broad and complex range of stakeholders, with the confidence to engage with senior officials and ministers.
- Be used to operating with a high degree of autonomy.
- Have practical experience in actively managing project dependencies.
- Be an experienced people manager, able to build and develop a high performing, flexible and motivated project team.
