Description
We are looking for an enthusiastic person able to work as a team member and as an independent practitioner. You must have the appropriate recognised qualifications and voluntary state registration.


The post holder will provide a complex specialist Clinical Neurophysiological service to patients of all ages from a large range of specialities and suffering from a wide variety of medical disorders, including those which may be neurological and /or psychiatric in nature.

They will undertake interpretation of results and provide factual reports on all areas of work. The post holder will be responsible for a specialist area of clinical neurophysiology.

They will work collaboratively on a day-to-day basis with others to contribute to the smooth and efficient running of the service, participate in training, education and supervision of junior and other staff groups and participate in quality assurance, audit and research and development programmes as required.

CLINICAL
Maintain high professional standards of Neurophysiological services to patients

As an independent practitioner plan, perform and interpret a range of Neurophysiological investigations to a high level of competence


This includes:
Perform Electroencephalographic (EEG) investigations employing current standard techniques, taking appropriate action(s) and making modifications as required.

Perform emergency EEG's on ITU (Intensive Care Units), SCBU (Special Care Baby Units) and general wards.

Perform EEG investigations using special techniques.

These include the use of activated recordings, recordings ie:
sleep deprivation, sedation etc.

Perform ambulatory EEG studies with and without home video monitoring.

Perform Nerve Conduction Studies for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome screening.

Perform multi-modality Evoked Potentials modifying where necessary.

Assist with EMG (Electromyography) examinations, NCS (Nerve Conduction Studies) in the department and on the wards.

Take responsibility for a specialist area of clinical practice.

Produce factual reports on a range of Neurophysiological investigations and provide advice to clinicians.

EDUCATION, TRAINING AND DEVELOPMENT

Provide clinical supervision / mentorship for other junior staff.


Participate in the teaching and training in Neurophysiology to a broad range of healthcare workers including medical, AHP, nursing, HCS etc.

Ensure personal compliance with regards to mandatory, professional and personal development according to service needs.

Ensure personal compliance with CPD guidelines, professional codes of conduct and evaluate the effect of development on service delivery.

Attend Trust, Regional and National meetings relating to issues of neurophysiological service(s) provision.


CLINICAL GOVERNANCE AND AUDIT

Participate in audit to ensure compliance with and development of professional and local policies and procedures and clinical standard/protocols/guidelines.


Support investigation of complaints regarding the service(s) and to report the findings to the line manager in accordance with local procedures.

Participate in the implementation of policies.

Work within agreed Trust and local policies and protocols.


HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Promote and ensure equality, diversity and rights for all, according to Trust policies and guidelines.


ASSET MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITIES
Undertake responsibility for the efficient and effective management of physical resources.

Contribute to the effective and efficient use of information resources and data storage.

Archiving of relevant data as per department processes.


Undertake fault remedy, cleaning and maintenance of recording equipment or any apparatus within the department including care and maintenance of electrodes.
