Purpose:


We are looking for an innovative and creative camera operator, to take the club's content capture to the next level.

You will join an experienced production team of multi-skilled and multi-disciplined content capture experts.


Manchester United's content team capture every moment of the club's day-to-day, including live matches, training, interviews, and general content capture.

As such your working environments will be varied and diverse, and your working hours will mirror those of the football team, including some unsociable hours.


The Role:


Studio

  • Following a running order or camera script (which gives the order of show/shots), you'll quickly respond to and interpret the cues of the director to achieve the desired end result.

Outside broadcast (OB)

  • Working as part of a team of camera operators, you'll film live sporting events, such as training, events, and matches.

On location

  • Capturing interviews and general daytoday activity, or filming news bulletins in and around the stadium or training ground.

Main responsibilities:


  • Assemble, prepare, and set up equipment prior to filming, which may include tripods, monitors, lighting, cables and leads and headphones
  • Offer advice on how best to shoot a scene and explain the visual impact created by particular shots
  • Plan shots, take part in reconnaissance visits and plan equipment needed.
  • Find solutions to technical or other practical problems (for an outside broadcast, for example, the natural light conditions need to be taken into account when setting up shots)
  • Be creative, practical, and innovative with problem solving on the go
  • Take sole responsibility in situations where only one camera operator is involved in the filming
  • Keep up to date with filming methods and equipment
  • Repair and maintain equipment, including keeping equipment logs up to date
  • Demonstrate a good awareness of health and safety issues, especially around players
  • Drive crew, and equipment to and from locations

The Person:


  • Degree or equivalent in Broadcast Journalism, media production or similar is preferred. Or, experience running a YouTube or fan channel or similar camera based venture
  • Experience in video editing
  • Solid theoretical, practical, and technical knowledge of cameras
  • The ability to frame and compose shots
  • The ability to perform camera moves accurately
  • Interpersonal and communication skills
  • The capacity to multitask and take direction from others
  • The ability to work under pressure and to deadlines
  • Flexibility, creativity, and patience
  • Attention to detail.
