Junior Laboratory Technician

Location:
Chilworth, Southampton


Salary:
£18,600 - £21,000 DOE


Hours:
Evening shift - 28 hours Monday - Thursday 16:30 to 00:00


Contract:
Part time, 6 months FTC

About the Junior Laboratory Technician role:

Working within the Industrial Explosion Hazards Laboratory you will undertake sample preparation & testing of a wide variety of materials, using specialist equipment, for flammability & explosivity testing.


As this is a junior role you will be expected to support the team with general laboratory duties, including cleaning, but you will also have the opportunity to develop and learn a wide variety of tests.


In order to be successful in this role you must have:

  • A keen interest in science
  • Minimum GCSE Level qualifications in Science & Maths (Grade C/4 or above)
  • Excellent organisational and administrative skills
  • Ability to identify work priorities and efficiently manage own workload
  • Some understanding of COSHH Health and Safety legislation, policies and procedures
  • Ideally, experience dealing with laboratory equipment, e.g. Electrical equipment, fume cupboards, pressure vessels, etc. not essential as training is provided
  • Methodical approach to tasks with good dexterity
  • Interest in Science (Chemistry/physics)
