Based in Watford, Hertfordshire our FTSE 100 multi-site leading retailer client are looking for an ACCA/ACA/CIMA qualified accountant to join them as Finance Business Partner, who can add value to the business and support them through their next phase ofdevelopment and growth cycle.

This role will be hybrid working, with 3 days in the office, however the role does require traveling UK-wide.


This job would suit an ACCA/ACA/CIMA fully qualified accountant with experience in working within a highly diverse multi-site commercial organisation or indeed an individual who is looking to leave practice for their 1st role in industry and wants to builda career in Commercial Finance.

The successful individual will be highly analytical with the ability to interpret and explain data to a diverse group with high variations in financial knowledge.

You will need the ability to plan and manage multiple tasks through a team of people and departmentswithin specified deadlines.

For this role they will need an articulate individual with strong influencing and coaching skills who is numerate, tenacious and commercially astute.

Advanced Excel skills are also essential.


Job responsibilities:

  • Assist Lead Accountant at period end providing support for junior members of the team and be able to fully close the accounts to the agreed deadlines.
  • Undertake bespoke and project work as directed by the Head of Operational Finance
  • Work with Project Managers to ensure all capital costs are captured correctly and variances to budget are understood.
  • Maintain the fixed asset and intangible asset registers.
  • Attend Regional operational and P&L meetings supporting the Regional Directors, Area and Depot Managers by providing financial expertise, support and analysis, exploring concerns and offering potential solutions.
  • Support the Operational Accountants and Operational Analysts, safeguarding the financial integrity and accuracy of the Depot P&L's and they are closed to the agreed timetables.
  • Responsible for assisting the Lead Accountant in the design and development of sustainable reporting solutions, using IS and own knowledge, in a timely manner as demanded by the business. Developing analytical skills and providing insightful knowledge thatleads to business improvements.
  • Keeping key reports complete and operational at all times.
  • Ensure Operational Accountants provide consistency in reporting from different systems to achieve financial integrity of sales, margin, costs, stock, payroll, banking and provisions by creating and enhancing processes to aid reconciliations. Update OperationalFinance Team with changes to processes.
  • Responsible for coaching Field teams and Depot managers in the effective interpretation of their P&L reports in order to achieve the required margin in either a group or on a onetoone basis as required.
  • Follow up and investigate queries from Depot Managers to ensure the accuracy of the financial accounts.
  • Periodic reconciliations of balance sheet accounts. Ensure integrity is maintained through reconciliations to confirm financial controls. Follow up discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Review trends and challenge current performance within the Regions and the wider business and facilitate implementation of best practice.
  • Preparation of financial information, including the periodic managements accounts.
  • Support budget holders in their understanding of actual periodic costs.
  • Liaise with internal and external auditors at half yearly and annual audits.
  • Ad hoc analysis as required by supporting the business with information for decision making.
  • Able to analyse large volumes of data and interpret findings in a clear concise format using excel/BOXI.
  • Deputise for Lead Accountant
