Northampton General Hospital is one of the largest employers in the area and we are on an exciting journey. All of our divisions are committed to doing things better, with more efficiency as we update, modernise, and advance.

We have also entered into a Group Model with neighbouring Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust and become University Hospitals of Northamptonshire.

We want to recruit the best people to deliver our services across the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire and help to unleash everyone's full potential.

As an organisation, we value how we communicate and promote our vacancies to all communities.

We are a Defence positive trust, supporting our reservists, veterans, spouses and partners.

We understand that we need to work with colleagues from diverse backgrounds and make sure the environment they work in is inclusive and collaborative.

We have active Networks that promote and support colleagues from all backgrounds. This ensures everyone feels supported and has a sense of belonging working for Kettering and Northampton General Hospitals.

The Trauma & Orthopaedic Directorate is a busy and progressive unit, expanding to meet the needs of the population. Further expansion is planned to enable capacity to meet increasing demand from the health community.

Theatres:
The theatre suite comprises 4 laminar flow theatres and a day case procedure room

Wards:

There are currently 56 trauma beds across 2 wards, 12 ring-fenced elective orthopaedic beds, 4-day surgery beds and 5 children's beds within the paediatric unit.

There is booked access to a High Dependency Unit consisting of 3 beds, as well as booked access to the ICU consisting of 3 beds for elective cases.

Clinics:
The Fracture and Out-patient Clinic is purpose built for the Orthopaedic department. It also houses the Plaster Room and minor operation procedure room.

Hospital Departments:
The Orthopaedic service is supported by the various departments that make up a busy general hospital.

Radiology has a full complement of services e.g., MRI, CT, Nuclear Medicine as well as plain film imaging. A PACS and RADIN network is available to review images online around the trust.

Access to Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy service on site.

Each middle grade doctor is responsible to one of the Orthopaedic Consultant teams and will rotate between those teams.

The duty rota consists of being on call 1: 10.

Orthopaedic surgery is undertaken in a separate Manfield Theatre Suite comprising 4 laminar flow airflow theatres. Trauma surgery is undertaken in dedicated daily trauma lists within the Manfield suite. Out-patient clinics are undertaken in a separate Orthopaedic and Fracture Clinic suite.

The 16 consultants are organised into four firms according to their sub-specialty interests: Lower limb arthroplasty; foot and ankle surgery; upper limb surgery; and paediatric orthopaedics.

Their overall supervision will be by one of the consultants who will assess their capabilities and monitor their progress.

They will work with one consultant to reflect the current working pattern of the middle grades but may be called upon to work with the other consultants to gain exposure to a variety of procedures.

The unit undertakes approximately 1200 lower limb joint replacements per year as well as revision procedures of both hip and knee.

Exposure will be given to all forms of arthroplasty surgery, including resurfacing.

Within the Department there are regular meetings, including Morbidity & Mortality, Radiology, Revision and Complex Case discussions.

As well as the seminars mentioned above there are facilities in the postgraduate medical centre with an extensive library, audio-visual aids, study rooms etc.

The department itself has its own specialist library.
