Where in the world of OVO will I be working?
The main base would be our London or Bristol offices.

The role sits within OVO Energy's Zero Carbon Living (ZCL) Solutions growth business, specifically within OVO Home, our dedicated Home business unit.

We design, launch and scale the future intelligent tech that's going to help us deliver Plan Zero and decarbonise our members homes.


What will I be doing?


Sat within our growing OVO ZCL Home team, the Smart Thermostats Lead will launch and scale propositions that drive the adoption of Smart Thermostats across our customers' homes.

The role will focus initially on Smart Thermostats but will also cover other emerging Home Energy IoT products.

We believe that Smart Thermostats are one of the most impactful and affordable products for home decarbonisation.

Smart thermostats help our customers easily control and monitor their energy use, helping them reduce energy consumption, and intelligently heat their homes whilst reducing energy bills.


The role is responsible for crafting our long-term smart thermostats business plan, and has full P&L accountability - being responsible for the proposition, commercials, strategic direction and go to market plan.


  • Carefully select and evolve our Smart Thermostat range, working with OEMs to ensure we have the very best products for our customers
  • Take ownership for managing and developing relationships with existing and new partners in the Smart Thermostat and HEM space
  • In time, develop and own the business strategy that helps define OVO's integrated Home Energy Management solutions (e.g., physical displays or mobile apps)
  • Creating attractive propositions that drive significant growth and customer adoption
  • Lead and own the end to end go to market strategy
  • Build the vital operational and customer care capabilities, working with our Care and Ops teams to ensure we deliver excellent customer experiences across the customer journey from purchase to delivery, installation and use
  • Work closely with the product and tech teams to build the customer journeys required to drive scale and profitability
  • Lead the integration of Smart Thermostats data into our customer experience, including our app and award winning Energy Insights product
  • Maintain the Smart Thermostats budget and manage the commercial performance
  • Be responsible for the business and customer economics
  • Own [in partnership with the finance business partner] the weekly/monthly reporting, including P&L performance vs budget and a detailed understanding of unit economics
  • Own and demonstrate the carbon savings benefits for our customers
  • Evaluate and own risks, challenges and opportunities, making recommendations on future strategy.
  • Represent OVO at external industry events to help build its profile and reputation as a tech leader in this space.

Is this the job for me?

Ideally you will be/have the following:

  • Experience in a startup, fast paced and tech based environment.
  • Experience of building business cases, forecasting and budgeting.
  • A knowledge and curiosity about heating controls or previous experience in adjacent sectors
  • Experience and skills in data reporting, having worked within Big Qeury and Tableau would be a huge advantage.
  • Experience developing commercial partnerships across a broad range of industries, including building models for potential partnerships, negotiating contracts, and developing relationships over time.
  • A track record of developing partnerships that include both commercial and marketing considerations
  • Experience working with product development and technology teams is preferred.
  • Excellent communications skills with the ability to engage audiences at senior exec and C suite level.
  • Effective networking skills.
  • Validated project management skills with the ability to see the bigger picture and deliver at pace.
  • Able to operate at a high level independently.
  • Skilled at writing with an ability to explain sophisticated topics and issues in a way that is accessible to a wide range of audiences.
