About the Role

  • This role is responsible for providing support to on going business area operational systems and the development and deployment of new systems. The role requires the ability to coordinate activities with the wider Infrastructure team and programme stakeholders to ensure successful implementation of programme deliverables, with a particular focus on the JAMES programme.
  • Duties include:
  • Working closely with other team members to ensure provision of required services within associated performance targets
  • Working with other engineering disciplines (Systems, Test & Evaluation, and Software Engineering) and nonengineering disciplines (programme management, proposal management and operations) to meet mission success milestones
  • Administer systems both from technical and security perspectives
  • Support build and deployment of new hardware and software solutions in to operational environment
  • Support technical investigations of problems raised against operational systems
  • Analysis of data and production of data reports to support the customer needs
- on call support of operational systems on a week on, week off rota
- occasional travel to Data Centres located in Wales
- occasional visits to Warminster site may be required to work on incident management, support team meetings, demonstrations, etc.


Required skills, qualifications and experience
- strong technical leadership within a busy operational environment
- ability to synthesize contractual needs and requirements into Infrastructure solutions that acknowledge technical, schedule and cost constraints

  • Experience in similar roles working to industry best practice standards
  • Broad knowledge of IT Systems design, development, and maintenance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders at all levels of the organisation
  • Clear and concise communication and presentation skills with an ability to convey key messages to technical and nontechnical stakeholders
  • Understanding of IT solution lifecycle and methodologies such as Agile, ITIL
  • Logical and careful approach to testing and problem solving with both hardware and software
  • Ability to prioritise own tasking to meet programme needs
  • Customerfocused attitude

  • Microsoft Windows Server
  • VMware vSphere Product line (ESXI,VCenter)
  • Oracle Database, Postgres
  • Red Hat JBOSS Application Platform
  • HPE Enterprise Hardware and Software Products. E.g. Oneview, Primera, Switches, Blades
  • Storage Area Networking, Array and Fabrics
  • Local and Wide Area Networking
  • Firewalls / Switches / Routers
  • Active Directory Domain Services / Group Policies / Trusts / Federation Services
