Description
The role

Sitting at the heart of Wandsworth Council, you will be part of a brand-new team providing fast-paced support to the Council's new Cabinet.

You'll be joining us at an exciting time of change - working with a new political administration to support the delivery of their vision for a fairer, compassionate, more sustainable borough.

Working to the Head of the Leader's Office, the Cabinet Support and Policy Officers are exciting roles in which you will provide administrative support, policy casework, research and briefings to the Cabinet to ensure they are able to make effective decisions, communicate their work, and able to work in partnership with residents, businesses, stakeholders, and communities.

Sitting in our wider Chief Executive's Group, you will be perfectly placed to work collaboratively with our policy, comms and governance teams as well as colleagues across the Council.

We're looking for people who are passionate about making a difference with an opportunity to work in a new team where new ideas are welcomed, and creativity is encouraged.

You'll need to be highly organised and adaptable, and you'll have the ability to balance a heavy workload with fixed deadlines and timescales.

You will be a confident communicator in person and in writing. You will be able to work to tight deadlines, with competing demands, on your own initiative. You should have experience of preparing concise and impactful briefings and policy papers for elected politicians or managers.

You should be abreast of how the changing regional and national policy landscape might affect and provide opportunities for Wandsworth and its residents.

You will have a good understanding of the political environment, and the role of the Leader's Office in supporting the Leader and Cabinet as non-political staff.

We're looking for people who enjoy working with others, people who are good at relationship building, and who have the confidence to operate with key stakeholders at the highest levels of the Council.

Agile Working

We recognise the importance of a good balance between work and home life so we do everything we can to accommodate flexible and agile working.

However, the nature of these roles and the work of the Leader's Office means that we will expect flexibility, with a significant amount of your time spent in the office in Wandsworth Town Hall and working directly with the Cabinet Members you are supporting.

We also offer a generous holiday allowance of 39 paid days (pro rata) including bank holidays and a wide range of learning and development opportunities.

In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of staff benefits such as membership of the Local Government pension scheme, childcare vouchers, new technology scheme, interest-free loans on annual travel cards, discounts with many leisure activities, restaurants, shops and other establishments.
