  • Job DescriptionAn exciting opportunity has arisen for a Health and Safety Advisor to become part of the BCH Health and Safety team to provide a professional health and safety advisory service to the Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire police forces.


This post will be in Cambridgeshire to support Cambridgeshire Constabulary, and in addition will provide support to the three-force collaborated approach to health and safety management.

Ideal applicants will be able to demonstrate a passion for bringing health and safety management to life, through providing the highest level of service to our officers, staff, volunteers, and visitors.


The nature of policing means that this role offers a unique opportunity to develop the successful applicant's professional knowledge and competency within a varied and safety critical environment, dealing with issues as diverse as operational policing and custody, alongside some of the more traditional Health and Safety Advisor functions of inspection, audit, training delivery and accident management.


Applicants must have a NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent and ideally be a Chartered member of the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (CMIOSH) or a Graduate member of IOSH (Grad IOSH).

They must also have wide ranging health and safety experience along with knowledge and/or practice of effective health and safety management strategies, auditing and implementing best practice.


Success in this role requires excellent interpersonal and written skills along with the ability to build relationships at all levels of the organisation.

Effective time management and IT skills are also essential to achieve in this role. Previous experience of health and safety in the police or emergency services would be useful.


Applicants will need to have a driving licence as the post holders will be required to travel extensively within the area covered by the three forces.

The role provides a varied and interesting workload with flexibility to plan your own diary.
