The Growth Company's Education and skills team have an exciting new opportunity for Functional Skills Co-ordinator to plan, deliver and assess effective Functional Skills lessons to maximise learner progress and achievement and co-ordinate the delivery of Functional Skills English and Maths to Technical Sector learners on Study Programmes and Apprenticeships.


Key Responsibilities:


  • Coordinate the caseloads of tutors delivering FS to Technical Sector learners, including referral and placement on appropriate programmes
  • Coordinate provision for individual needs, including supervision of ILPs and ALN support
  • Liaise with sector colleagues to manage attendance and progress of learners
  • Deliver good and outstanding teaching and learning across a range of centres and to groups of differing size and profile, as directed
  • Line manage one or two tutors under the direction of the Head of Math's and English
  • Conduct initial and ongoing assessment in line with Company policy to inform placement of learners on effective programmes of learning
  • Plan and deliver lessons that offer variety, pace, and challenge to engage learners
  • Use IA outcomes and all available information to personalise learning experiences for individuals
  • Adopt inclusive strategies to ensure support and challenge for all, including learners with SEND, challenging behaviours, other personal and social difficulties, and medical needs
  • Effectively manage learner behaviour and classroom climate to create a secure and positive learning environment
  • Promote and model high expectations for all learners, to establish high aspirations and confidence
  • Work with individuals and groups of learners to build resilience and develop positive learning skills
  • Assess learners' work in line with Company policy, using diagnostic and personalised feedback to drive ongoing progress toward examination
  • Track and monitor progress of individuals and groups of learners to ensure rapid and sustained progress from prior attainment
  • Identify learners in danger of underachievement and liaise with colleagues to ensure prompt, effective intervention
  • Share information about learner progress with relevant colleagues to ensure a holistic approach
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of specification, funding, and sector requirements for Functional Skills
  • Ensure that Company policies on Safeguarding, Equality and Diversity and Health and Safety are consistently upheld

About You:


  • Up to date knowledge of Functional Skills curriculum and assessment and framework/standard requirements for Apprentices
  • Knowledge of range of approaches to teaching and learning in the Skills Sector
  • Knowledge of approaches to embedding Maths / English in vocational delivery
  • Experienced in the following:
  • Coaching/mentoring/performance management
  • Teaching in challenging environments
  • Teaching and assessment for progress

Skills Required:


  • Subjectspecific teaching qualification is essential
  • Record of ongoing CPD
  • High professional standards
  • Ability to motivate disengaged learners and to plan engaging, inclusive lessons
  • Ability to work effectively in collaboration with all colleagues and stakeholders
  • Genuine commitment to improving the prospects of young people and adult learners
  • Recent experience of successful delivery of GCSE to 'hard to reach' learners
  • Manage time and workload to tight deadlines
