Part Time Head of Finance - The Role
This is an influential role critical to the success of the organisation.

As such, you'll play a key part in leading and shaping the finance team, helping to improve financial processes and reporting and ultimately providing sound financial advice to theboard.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Provide key leadership to the board in terms of finance and accounting strategy, to optimise financial performance and strategic position;
  • Lead and manage the finance function;
  • Oversee the outsourced accounting function;
  • Model and forecast the group's strategic plans and communicate possible outcomes to the board. Formulate plans and risk analysis to help business growth;
  • Challenge assumptions and decisionmaking and provide financial analysis and guidance on all activities, plans, targets and business drivers;
  • Coordinate the preparation of accurate and timely financial reports and develop systems to improve reporting requirements;
  • Ensure sound financial and commercial management, including budgeting, forecasting and cash flow management;
  • Project accounting, including the tracking of WIP against budget & measurement of benefits (financial, environmental & social);
  • Attending board meetings and presenting management reports;
  • Responsibility for ensuring capital requirements, debt, taxation, disposals and acquisitions are in place and managed appropriately;
  • Support commercial negotiations;
  • Overseeing financial policies and procedures to ensure effective financial management;
  • Be the authorised official for HMRC purposes and ensure compliance with all statutory and regulatory reporting requirements;
  • Establish a high level of credibility and manage strong working relationships with key stakeholders including the board, banks, auditors, insurance brokers and HMRC;
  • Understand and mitigate key elements of the firm's risk profile and ensure appropriate insurance coverage for all insurable business risks.

The Successful Applicant


You will be an ambitious, proactive Part Time Head of Finance who has gravitas to influence and to facilitate change.


Ideally you will demonstrate:

  • You have achieved the level of qualified accountant (ACA/ACCA/CIMA);
  • Experience of working in or with an SME;
  • Exceptional analytical, presentation and Excel skills;
  • A diligent, problem solving and proactive attitude prepared to be into the detail of the accounts as well as assisting with strategic planning;
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to build relationships with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the organisation;
  • Experience of reporting to the board and of contributing to strategy at a leadership level within an organisation;
  • Change management experience with a desire to drive continuous improvement;
  • The energy, ambition and enthusiasm to grow and add value to the organisation;
  • Experience in the energy sectordesirable;
  • Sourcing capital for large environmental projects desirable;
  • A commitment to notforprofit and community benefit principles.
