SM&T offers students an invaluable opportunity to gain experience and knowledge into our business and the energy sector.

This will serve as a platform for you to explore your chosen career path and determine the best fit for your aspirations.

Throughout the internship, you'll be actively engaged in impactful projects crafted with your development in mind.


You will receive dedicated support from a supervisor to set you up for success and ensure to maximize your growth.

At the end of your internship, you'll present your learnings to the team upon completion of your project, where we will assess your suitability to join the graduate scheme in 2025.


A CAREER IN TREASURY


SM&T's Treasury department is a key part of our business is responsible for managing various aspects of a company's Finance function.

It involves overseeing cash management, liquidity planning, risk management, and financial transactions to ensure financial stability and ensures we optimise our capital.


In this Treasury role, you will gain exposure to Treasury Operations, Asset & Liability Management, Liquidity and Trade & Corporate Finance.

This will involve work with transactions, FX derivatives and bank reconciliations. You will also learn about cashflow forecasting and loan management. There will be an opportunity to work collaboratively with the Trading business to approve deals and funding.


ELIGIBILITY
We are seeking ambitious and driven interns like yourself - individuals who are eager learners and high achievers.


For our internship:

  • You must be in your penultimate year of study and likely to graduate in 202
  • You will need to be studying towards your Bachelor's, Master's or PhD.
  • You'll need to be on track for a 2:1 or higher.
  • We do not offer sponsorship for the internship, so you must be studying in the UK and have the relevant right to work during the summer.

SKILLS REQUIRED
As part of our Intern Programme, you'll have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience across Treasury and we would be looking for:

  • Preferably Finance or Economics background
  • Strong communication skills, verbal and written
  • Excellent attention to detail
  • Ability to collaborate with others
  • Good problemsolving skills

GRADUATE SCHEME 2025

The Finance & Treasury Graduate Scheme is a two-year rotational programme.

That means you'll try out a range of positions across different teams, giving you the chance to learn how our business works and, more importantly, find what it is you most enjoy.


By getting a taste of different areas, you can identify the parts you liked and want to pursue more of, build up a network of connections, and get to grips with a range of different responsibilities.

Over the course of the programme, you'll rotate every six months - plenty of time to find an area that suits what you want to do.

And for an ambitious grad like yourself, it's a chance to get stuck into the things that make working at SM&T so exciting.


As part of the scheme, you'll also study with CIMA, the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants or the AMCT (Associate Member of Corporate Treasury).

Designed to strengthen both your skills and career ambitions, your studies will act as an additional resource ahead of you finding your feet and leaving your mark in the world of finance.
