Role description:


As part of a growing and agile business, our Soils and Sustainable Land Management team is looking for a Principal Soils Consultant with a broad range of EIA experience.

You will work collaboratively with a range of technical specialists on a broad range of projects, lead and coordinate topic-specific input to Environmental Impacts Assessments and related deliverables, work closely with clients, develop new areas of business and mentor others in the team.


You'll be instrumental in improving the understanding and sustainable management of soils and the impacts of land use change for a diverse range of projects including large scale energy and infrastructure projects, large-scale mixed-use development schemes for both private and public clients, public realm and masterplanning projects.

We drive technical excellence in everything we do and promote a flexible and collaborative environment supported by digital innovation. You will play a key role in the successful delivery of major multidisciplinary development projects.


Role accountabilities:

  • Your role will be based in our Soils and Sustainable Land Management Team, delivering technical expertise on soils across a diverse range of projects, from large Arcadis multidisciplinary projects to smaller local clients. The role has close links with others services within Arcadis, in particular Ecology, Biodiversity, Land Remediation and Sustainability, so a broad range of opportunities will be open to you, to follow your passions and develop your technical and managerial skills within a highly experienced and supportive, motivated, wider group.
  • You will have the opportunity to undertake deskbased data collection, soil and Agricultural Land Classification surveys, author Environmental Statement chapters as part of Environmental Impact Assessments, develop soil handling and restoration plans and supervise soilrelated works on site. You will also have the opportunity to assess the impacts of land use change on soil functions and the delivery of ecosystem services, in particular working closely with colleagues delivering Biodiversity Net Gain schemes.
  • You will be actively encouraged to challenge yourself, learn new things, and use your skills wherever they can make an impact across the extents of our Environment business.   • The role is flexible around office or home/ office hybrid working. Some periods of time spent onsite at our client's properties may be required. Opportunities may also arise for our staff to immerse themselves in our client's businesses in part or fulltime secondment roles.

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Experienced soil consultant/scientist with experience of Environmental Impact Assessment, preferably within a consultancy environment or with experience of multidisciplinary working and broad sector experience.
  • Experience of soil surveying, ideally including knowledge and experience of the Agricultural Land Classification system.
  • Member of the British Society of Soil Science and Chartered/working towards chartership with an accredited Institution.
  • You should be a natural collaborator with an affinity for developing positive relationships with clients, promoting Arcadis services in the area of soils and land management both internally to our wider Arcadis business, and externally to clients
