Description
OUR BUSINESS
We are a progressive family business, committed to providing a good working environment within our dedicated team, whilst continuously improving technical performance.
We run an expanding herd of 550 cows, on a fully housed, all year-round calving system, and currently milk three times per day through a 40:40 herringbone parlour with ADF and teat scrubber.
All cows wear Cow Alert pedometers which monitor locomotion as well as lying times and heat detection, and we mobility score our herd fortnightly.
With a keen focus on driving production through high welfare and close attention to detail, we are looking to recruit someone with the same values to work alongside our existing highly skilled team
to manage all aspects of mobility in our herd.
JOB RESPONSIBILITES
Our current approach to trimming has been devised with the assistance of Dr. Nick Bell, alongside our farm vet. Our trimming is all completed in house in a roll over crush.
The hours in this role are flexible as you would be expected to manage your own schedule and workload, but duties would include:
- Monitoring Cow Alert to ensure any cows with a deviation in locomotion are seen within 24 hours. A thermal imaging camera is used to identify any issues before they are visible.
- Communication with our existing dairy team to ensure any hoof health concerns are dealt with promptly.
- Mobility Scoring
- Producing all foot trimming lists.
- Completing the majority of routine trims within the herd, with the support of our existing on farm trimming team.
- Revisiting any cows as required and raising a weekly list of cows requiring further intervention.
- Management of Digital Dermatitis and foot hygiene.
- Maintenance of foot trimming areas and our roll over crush.
- Active involvement in team meetings and monthly meetings with our vet.
- Occasional routine dairy work to cover any holidays etc although this would not be part of your main day to day role as the day to day herd health and milking duties are fulfilled by our current dairy team.
We anticipate a schedule which includes alternate weekends and a day off in the week and you would have the support of our existing Herdspersons to see any cows as required in your time off.
