  • This is an exciting opportunity for anyone who thrives on using data to provide creative solutions to manage, manipulate, analyse and develop customer focussed reports while providing excellent customer service.

This is a technical role where you'll be responsible for the provision of accurate and timely data and information about the sales and income of rod licences, utilising tools including, Microsoft Dynamics Customer Relationship Manager (CRM), Excel, Power BI and Google Analytics.

As part of the national Rod Licence Team, you will be expected to work with colleagues across the EA, Defra and with external Customers and the ability to build and maintain a working network of contacts is essential.

You may be required to present your research to management teams when clear and thought out communication is vital.

As part of the role you will be expected to provide ad hoc support with customer service tasks such as processing refunds and contacting customers both written and over the phone.


  • The team
  • The Rod Licence Team is part of the National Enforcement Services (NES) and is based in Warrington. The team manages the Rod Fishing Licence service, reporting from the 'I want to fish' database. We work with internal customers, such as Environment and Business, Digital services, Enforcement teams and Defra Communications.

The team also provides witness statements for Enforcement work, processes rod licence refunds, manages customer enquiries and supports improvements to system processes.


  • Experience/skills required
  • We are seeking a team member with excellent IT and customer service skills who works in teams, can solve complex problems and has a proactive aptitude for working with data to investigate and report findings clearly and concisely.

Essential skills/experience:

  • Passion for data and proactive investigations and analysis
  • Use of reporting tools to provide customer friendly reports and dashboards
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills write formulas, macros and create pivot tables
  • Proven ability to work with large datasets (1 million rows) across multiple workbooks
  • Works in a team and able to prioritise workload to meet team/service deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills
Desirable skills

  • Experience in using Power BI (able to create and manage reports/dashboards)
  • Experience using Python
  • ArcGIS (Query and cut shapefiles)
  • Welsh speaking would be helpful but not essential
