Legacy Strategies are currently looking on behalf of one of our Specialist Civil Engineering clients for a Plant Maintenance Apprentice to work on some of their large projects in the London area.

  • Full Time | 2 Year Apprenticeship_
As a
Plant Maintenance Apprentice, you'll learn a diverse skillset, including equipment checks, basic fault finding, and component repair.

You will also learn to be responsible for disassembling, repairing, and reassembling various components to ensure plant functionality before handover to operations.

In this role, you will collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders, such as customers, supervisors, co-workers, and suppliers. You may work on-site nationally or in workshops, potentially independently with guidance. Your schedule may involve weekend and night shifts, with exposure to various weather conditions.

The apprenticeship will give you the opportunity to learn whilst earning and will give you the following skills:

  • Prepare work areas (workshops, facilities, and construction sites) for equipment maintenance.
  • Manage, handle, and store necessary tools and resources, reporting shortages.
  • Safely configure and prepare equipment for component handling.
  • Efficiently disconnect and remove various components using aids.
  • Dismantle, repair, and overhaul worn or damaged parts and equipment.
  • Replace faulty construction equipment parts.
  • Assemble and refit new or repaired components.
  • Conduct static and operational performance checks on repaired equipment.
  • Perform visual inspections and specified testing on construction equipment.
  • Fabricate and weld oneoff components per specifications.
  • Repair or modify existing components using heating, welding, and brazing.
  • Install and commission equipment at sitebased locations.
  • Diagnose hydraulic, electric, mechanical, and pneumatic system issues.
  • Maintain records, report work progress, and communicate with stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legislation, regulations, and best practices in various industrial environments.

Your Commitment


You will initially be based on site in Northolt, although travel around sites in London and surrounding areas will be required.


The Construction/Civil Engineering industry never sleeps This means you will be on 12-hour shift work (7:00 - 7:00) which can rotate between days and nights (with notice).


The Plant Maintenance Apprenticeship is a 2 year commitment, meaning you will need to study alongside work for 2 years.

You are entitled to 20% 'off the job training' which will be delivered by the largest Construction learning provider in the UK.

You will be required to study away from home for 1-2 weeks at a time.

You will have access to excellent facilities, including; private, spacious room, serviced daily; restaurant with meals included; on site gym; laundry facilities; sports hall.
