It promotes the profession of building services engineering by accrediting courses of study in further and higher education and is the standard setter and authority on building services engineering.


CIBSE provides the voice for the profession, is consulted by government about construction, engineering and sustainability and is represented on major bodies and organisations which govern construction and engineering occupations in the UK, Europe and worldwide.


Purpose of the role


To support and co-ordinate the activities of the Technical team and their interactions with other CIBSE departments, CIBSE Members and wider industry stakeholders.


Responsibilities

  • Act as first point of contact for all internal and external enquiries (technical, guidance and policy enquiries, calendar and paper requests, etc.)
  • Ensure effective and clear communication within the Technical team, including the distribution of material to appropriate team members
  • Organise meetings, prepare and circulate papers, including for the CIBSE Technology Committee, Knowledge Management Committee and Knowledge Generation Panel
  • Manage the process for responses to consultations and updating the relevant webpages
  • Manage departmental committee membership and communication in Salesforce, Microsoft Teams and Outlook
  • Manage the content of Technical and Knowledge sections of the CIBSE website, monitoring, maintaining and updating content as required.
  • Support the input of volunteers to the production of knowledge and in research activities
  • Collaborating with the CIBSE Marketing Department to ensure promotion of CIBSE publications, production of statements regarding responses to government consultations, and dissemination of CIBSE's views on policy.
  • Working with CIBSE's Training, Events and Membership teams to ensure consistency of CIBSE's technical position between departments.
  • Provide administrative support for the Technical Department

  • Other work at the appropriate level as may be required by the Technical Director.

External

  • First point of contact for all public enquiries relating to consultations, policy, technical guidance and other technical issues
  • Volunteers, including authors, peer reviewers, Technology Committee, Knowledge Management Committee, and Knowledge Generation Panel members
  • External stakeholders including third party service providers, other institutions and members
  • Occasional research as may be deemed necessary.

Person specification

Essential

  • Excellent written and spoken English
  • Numerate
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams)
  • Comfortable with membership databases data entry and querying
  • Experience of keeping notes, paper preparation and proof reading
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills and an ability to prioritise effectively
  • Selfmotivated; proactive, able to identify improvements to departmental processes and procedures
  • Proven team player who sets and achieves high standards
Desirable

  • A qualification or experience in a science, engineering or constructionrelated discipline
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience of working in a professional institution or nonprofit membership organisation and managing volunteers
  • Experience with website content and customer relationship management systems
  • An interest in issues surrounding construction, the built environment, building performance, energy, sustainability and climate change
  • Experience of or an interest in the UK parliamentary and government affairs
