Job Introduction

The starting salary for this position is £26,080 per annum based on a 36-hour working week. The role is offered on a 6-month fixed term or secondment basis until 30th September 2023.

Our team supports Surrey's
agile working policy and have the option to work from home, although there are specific times we meet in the Woking office to support staff development, training and wellbeing, or during business critical periods.

The Schools Admission Team at Surrey provides a critical service to our schools and our children.

We work hard to ensure that the school's admission process runs effectively, and that some of Surrey's most vulnerable children can access educational placements.

We're now looking for a
Support Officer to join our team and help make a difference in this crucial area of work.

As a team we deliver the mainstream school admissions service for all schools, including normal rounds and in-year admissions. But we also arrange placements for vulnerable children and those that might be missing education.

What we're looking for

First and foremost; a great communicator You'll be spending a lot of time talking to parents, schools and other local authorities; answering their questions and providing accurate information.

As such, we're looking for someone who can communicate (both over the phone and in writing) confidently, sensitively and courteously.

Due to the nature of the work we do, there may be times where conversations can be challenging, so some experience of handing difficult situations will be needed here.

As we've mentioned, the work we do is time-critical to make sure that children have access to their educational placements, so together with the support of our School's Admissions Officer, you will need to be comfortable and effective working at pace to ensure our deadlines are met.

In your CV and personal statement, we would love to hear about the following:

  • Your knowledge or experience of the school admissions process
  • Your ability to manage and prioritise workloads, and how you work effectively to tight deadlines
  • Your effective written and verbal communication skills, honed to deal with a diverse range of customers and partners
  • Your robust IT skills, including Word and Excel and database management systems
  • Your familiarity with the principles of safeguarding and data protection
At Surrey, our values and behaviours are just as important as our skills and abilities. They shape who we are as an organisation. Find out more about the values we follow.
