Outdoor Recreation Specialsit RAF Croughton

£12.12 per hour, 37.50 hours per week


The primary purpose of this position is to assist in planning, developing, managing and maintaining the enhanced outdoor adventure program to patrons at RAF Croughton.

You would be expected to organize and instruct high adventure outings for periods of up to twelve hours.

These activities could include water events, mountain, rock climbing, caving, cycling, camping, whitewater rafting, horse riding and special events and determine resources needed to support the program.

You will be required to drive up to a 17 passenger vehicle to transport patrons to and from activities. Routinely review the condition of the facility ensuring it is maintained in a safe and presentable manner. Be responsible for training staff on program policies/safety orientation and additional skills that may be required.


Knowledge of or the ability to learn certain principles, concepts or techniques of Outdoor Recreation activities, sufficient to plan, organizes and manages Outdoor Recreation activities are desired.

Knowledge of or the ability to learn to provide outdoors instruction, coaching, training and leadership, plus the ability to assess risk and ensure safe practices are followed in accordance with governing standard procedures are desired.

Knowledge of or the ability to learn local and regional natural resources to provide varied and interesting activity programs, while caring for the environment are desired.

Skill in or the ability to learn, planning, organizing, coordinating, and evaluating Outdoor Recreation or similar programs that meet the needs of the community is desired.


It is required that the employee possess Outdoor Activity experience or interest in at least one of the following disciplines i.e.

biking, mountain biking, canoeing, kayaking, rock climbing, stand up paddle boarding or backcountry hiking. Position requires a UK Category 'D1 + E' driver's license to be able to perform duties. Must have or be able to obtain within 12 months of employment. Training to achieve can be provided.

Failure to obtain the license within the 12 month period due to employee negligence will result in separation from the position.

If failure to obtain certifications is due to circumstances outside the employee's control, management will work with the employee to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable timeframe.

Work may require some travel away from the normal duty station using government owned vehicles.

Incumbent must be able to obtain certification in emergency first aid to include child and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) within 12 months of employment.

US Forces will arrange certification.

Failure to complete the required certifications within the 12-month period due to employee negligence will result in separation from the position.

If failure to obtain certifications is due to circumstances outside the employee's control, management will work with the employee to satisfy the requirements within a reasonable timeframe.

A pre-appointment physical examination will be required
