Job Description:

The Transport Platform team delivers propositions, products, customer experience and relationships with brokers, car manufacturers and suppliers through our industry-leading brands Black Horse, Lex Autolease and high street brands.

The team also has a critical role in supporting car drivers transition to more sustainable driving alternatives, ensuring we support the transition to Net Zero as consumers finance electric vehicles with us.

We finance over 1M vehicles on UK's roads with over 80k of these being electric or plug-in hybrid vehicles.

Your Role


Working with the Transport Design, Product, and Engineering Teams, you'll develop and lead the research strategy for a key and strategic area of our business.

We're going through a major transformation and there has never been a more exciting time to join, to have the opportunity to influence and instil customer-centricity when designing our customer products, services and journeys early in the process


You'll report into and be supported by a Design Research Lead as well as the Transport Design Research team and wider research community.

You'll be managing the research plan and roadmap for your service or product area. You'll deliver research to solve customer problems, unlock new opportunities and guide what is created. You'll enjoy working on varied research across the product development lifecycle, from generative to evaluative research.


What we need from you:

  • Experience working collaboratively with design and product teams to identify and prioritise customer problems and ask the right research questions
  • Solid understanding and experience of the design thinking process
  • Ability to create research roadmaps to keep the team on track
  • Strong qualitative research expertise using a variety of techniques such as indepth interviews, usability testing (moderated and unmoderated), concept testing, focus groups etc.
  • Substantial experience in conducting both strategic and tactical research studies from ground up
  • Can synthesise and present insights in an impactful and practical manner to generate a shared understanding of user needs and opportunities
  • Credible in front of senior customers, providing a healthy challenge where appropriate and can be bold in championing design research
  • Agile delivery with strong planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to work in our Cardiff office whenever necessary as part of hybrid working model

What we would love from you:

  • Experience combining qualitative and quantitative methods
  • Willingness to share your expertise and learn from others
  • Ethnographic experience (such as contextual enquiry or diary studies)
  • Passion for design research, transport, and/ or financial services
  • Experience with accessibility research and/or vulnerable customers
