About The Role:

Are you a budding journalist or communications student looking to broaden your skills and knowledge?

Are you keen to gain experience covering national sporting events?

If so, then Swim England wants to hear from you.


The national governing body for swimming, diving, artistic swimming and water polo is once again running its exciting volunteer programme, to give students an opportunity to showcase their talent and boost their portfolio.

Working alongside members of the Swim England communications team, your responsibilities will include:

  • Writing crisp, precise copy for the Swim England website
  • Gathering reaction to those medalwinning moments from athletes and coaches
  • Creating engaging social posts for our social media channels


The commitment from you will be a minimum of four days poolside, attending at least two of our national events across all disciplines throughout 2024.


In return, published articles will be credited to you so they can be added to your portfolio, we will feedback on your work, offering tips and advice, as well as providing a reference for any potential future employer.


In addition, you'll receive a Swim England-branded Speedo polo shirt and bag, travel expenses from your home to the venue and hotel accommodation if required.


About You:


  • Be confident in writing accurate articles for a digital audience
  • Be confident in interviewing athletes, coaches to gather quotes
  • Have knowledge of social media and be able to write engaging posts
  • Be willing to attend weekend and evening events


We're keen to hear from students or qualified journalists/communications experts who want to gain experience covering sporting events for a fresh challenge.

Previous experience / knowledge of writing engaging communications would also be advantageous.
