To take strategic responsibility and accountability for the development and delivery of assessments and qualifications to assure City & Guilds' global reputation and competitiveness as a leading vocational education business.

Description

Main Responsibilities:

  • Providing leadership and governance of assessments and assessment quality and clear oversight and management of our qualification and assessment design, development and delivery.
  • Making decisions and influencing on assessment matters (including all aspects of marking and awarding) at a senior level both within the organisation and externally, ensuring there is a deep understanding of the impacts of decisions on the Assessment team,working closely with the Head of Development, Head of Technical Standards, Head of Fulfilment, the wider business, stakeholders and customers.
  • Providing focussed assessment expertise and leadership guidance and support for the Senior Managers in Assessment through the process of question paper production and end to end processes around marking and awarding.
  • Having processes in place to ensure that we work effectively, in line with both regulatory and quality needs as well as customer needs to design, develop and deliver high quality qualifications and assessments.
  • Raising the status and recognition of Assessment teams internally, speaking up and representing their interests in the Directorate and the wider organisation. Raising the profile/status internally and externally of City & Guilds. External recognition ofthe strategic importance we attach to assessment and assessment quality.
  • Fostering strong relationships with external stakeholders amongst key stakeholders including: Ofqual, IFATE, DfE, QW, partner Awarding Organisations.
  • Providing expert knowledge, guidance and support to the Executive Director of Assessment, Standards and Awarding, the Senior Leadership Team and the Executive.
  • Setting the overarching strategy and direction for the Assessment.

Profile

  • Deep and demonstrated expert knowledge, understanding and experience of bestpractice assessment theory and practice particularly in respect of item and question paper production, marking and standards setting and maintaining.
  • Demonstrated expert knowledge of team delivery of high volumes of assessment material in relation to highstakes qualifications, such as Functional Skills, T levels, Technical qualifications and EPA to high quality and to agreed timelines.
  • Regulatory knowledge: understanding of the regulatory requirements and governmental policies that affect vocational and technical qualifications.
  • Welldeveloped Leadership skills, including: leading, motivating and supporting teams, experience of improving culture, cultivating talent and ways of working.
  • Ability to translate policy directions into assessment principles and strategies for qualifications and communicate these effectively.
  • Ability to deliver assessment ontime and on budget to high quality standards.
  • Customerfocused thinking that considers the real impact decisions could have in a delivery environment.
